This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in March...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of March of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Do you need to give a copy of the POAs to anyone within the Navy or just keep the copies at home? I plan on having a financial and medical POA completed.
Hi everyone who has a depper leaving in March. My son leaves march 1st so that is coming very soon. I am very proud of him as when he gets out of BC his A school will be as a corpsman. I just went thru my daughter leaving Nov 8th. so wanted to give you all a little of my experience as I am going thru the same things you are and have just been thru. My daughter did great at BC and is now at Nuke school at Charleston, SC.
Yes your son or daughter will probably get sick at BC. Most do so do what you can to boost them now. They will not go to the infirmary unless they absolutly have to as they do not want to take a chance of getting held back.
Have them get in shape as much as they can. Even a little can help. My daughters Number 1 advice for her brother is to get in shape as much as possible. This is something they can control now and it will make things eaiser for them at BC.
At first they will always be tired. On average my daughter got about 4 1/2 to 5 hours of sleep a night. They do stand watches, and other duties besides all the training that they go thru. So dont get alarmed if the first couple of letters are a little negative they will get better and those last letters from BC will make you proud.
I went to my daughter's graduation Jan 6th and was up to now the proudest day of my life. The graduation at Great Lakes is just beautiful. Over 900 new sailors standing there in their dress blues was awesome and just think your son or daughter will be one of them soon.
REMEMBER EVERYTHING YOU ARE FEELING IS NORMAL from proud, happy, sad, nervous, etc. You as a mom are allowed to have every emotion you are feeling, and you will go thru all of them, as this is a great big step for you as well as your son or daughter. I rely on the strength of my family, friends, and god to help me as I miss my daughter very much and know I will miss my son equally.
@ Nancy ....Mesa ...Dont worry Ill give you directions to MEPS... in Downtown Phx ...lol .... easy to get to ....lol ...You will be fine ... Im sure since we are local and close to Phx...he will not go to a hotel ...... :) Im always around :) you are going to be fine ,,,,,:)
Jaimers
@ Nancy ... This was my experience with when my Dau shipped out last year..I dont know how your recruiting office is...but the one my son goes to they are amazing... They keep me informed of everything....they even called me last year the following morning after my Dau left with her address ship/div# ..of course I brought them cookies ;) every now and then when I was in the area ..:)
PS. bring tissue... if you are there through lunch they feed everyone... just sub-sandwiches chips and soda. . its a lot of sitting around and waiting. but at least you will be with your son those last few hours before they leave for BC. You can play games on phone/text...no noise/no talking. lol
@ Nancy - Hiya , How've you been...They will go to MEPS early... usually about 5am ..lol then us parents with go back around 8am we. they have to go in early they have paper work to attend. Since he is local he will not need to go stay at the Hotel. Have you IDs with you they will check your bags and stuff when you enter MEPS. there is metered parking if you can find a spot or right across the street is a parking area. have cash handy...I cant remember the amount Im thinking 5-10$ for the time we where there. Once your in ....no cell phone allowed unless you go to the cafeteria. We where there for 5-6 hours from the time we arrived and left....You will be able to watch them swear in ... u will be allowed to move about the area take as much pictures as you want. You will be able to see them get on the van too... you just cant walk with them... I remember we went down the elevators first then they came down with the group of however many kids where shipping out that they...
All,
As JessicaB says, "learn the 11 General Orders". It is required. However, after working with so many deppers over the years they always have a hard time remembering them. So, just this week I made a study sheet that will really help them (I think).
You might want to consider passing this information to them so they will have a easier time in boot camp.
btw: I post a lot of other info here at N4M in the MEPS and DEP section:

We are getting so excited for his leave..This site has such valuable information that I am passing along to my son..Thank you so much
Hi Tiffany,
There aren't real tickets. The recruit can put four names on the list; children 12 and under do not count towards that total, so you could have your 6 & 8 year olds and four other people. Any additional people would be seated if there is room. One PIR recently had a large number of divisions graduating, and people were warned that there would be no extra seating available; usually that's not the case.
