This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in March...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of March of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Latest Activity: Jul 21, 2022

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My son called last night at midnight, he said he had about a minute to say he was at Boot Camp and all is well.

He was EXHAUSTED.  MEP's was a very long day, up at 4:45am, breakfast, medical exam, paperwork, shuffling back and forth with more paperwork and so much waiting around. Finally to the airport at about 1:00pm and the flight was at 6:30pm, so more waiting around.  That's when they could sleep and is a GREAT idea to have a cell phone because he called home a few times (boredom) and he called grandma, his sister and brother, etc.  He also brought with him index cards with the information that he needs to know, like General Orders, etc.

His flight was easy, he called when he landed at about 8:30pm, then again for the last call at midnight.  He was so tired, still doing stuff, like measuring for clothes, shoes, paperwork.  He said there were about 60 of them processing and only 5 Special OP's, and only one other diver from Wisconsin (is that mom out there?).

So I guess the next step is the box, and I will let you know if his phone is in there.  I would encourage your kids to bring a cell and a calling card.  Like I said, he called all day long along the way and having his cell made it easy.

Good Luck everyone!  HUGS!!!

I asked the recruiter about the black watch and he said he did not need it and they would not let him ware it anyway. Why do they need the calling card? They can't call out on the phones there? He will take his cell to make the first call but after that do they have to have the card to call? The recruiter did not say anything about the calling card.

For those of you that have loved ones leaving soon - be sure to mention what I posted about my son leaving a message in his pocket for me and how happy I was to get it!!!   I had read a post on N4M (somewhere) that some other son had done that for his mom and how much it ment to her - We were eating dinner one night and my hubby asked what was new with "the moms" and I told him -  about what I had read - I must admit I got a little teary when I told the story - My Son  must have been listening (for once!!)  LOL   I think thats why he did it!?!?!

But, hey sometimes you just need to leave them a 'little hint'!!  LOL

PC Mom LOL mailing a calling card!! not cell...
Comment by Navy Wife Ginnibean on March 9, 2011 at 12:03am

oh CMom what a great post!!!!

PC Mom they may have told you no need for calling card because they are allowed to keep their cells now and call from them, did your son have one with him? Anyway we just found this out last Wednesday, however the charge that is on their phone when they get there is all they have so the hubby will be sent with a phone card, if he didn't have a cell mailing him one will probably be just fine too = )

JennNY I cannot believe that was such an ordeal, it clearly states somewhere that girls need to stay on birthcontrol during BC if they are on it prior to shipping...so I'm not sure what the issue was all about, poor girl, glad she got to leave!!

I printed off pictures for H to take with him, various pics of us from our wedding day all the way up to last weekend, some of his momma and step dad and of course one of our K9 kiddos...he was happy that I did this for him.  Hard to believe this time next week I will be without him, *sigh* I sure am glad I have you all!!!!
