Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I felt the same way, Kenya! He got to GL on the 9th but when I talked to him before he boarded the plane for Chicago he sounded so happy that it really put me at ease. He's doing something he wants to do therefore I need to be happy for him! Yes, I do get emotional at times but just realize he's doing something good for his future!

My son left for bootcamp March 10th. My emotions have been extreme. I have been crying everyday. I'm proud of my son decision but it's the fact that my baby boy is leaving home and I can't be there to make sure he is okay. I'm hoping it get better as time go on.

Hi Deb, My son's friend leaves the 21st, so I bet they will be toghether in basic. My son leaves the 29th.  He too says he's excited but nervous.  He's been out of school for 2 years. Tried college (ran track), said he didn't feel like that's where he was suppose to be, so he cam home at Christmas.  Then he went a semester at the community college, really disliked that.  He told me the other night he felt like Navy was a good fit. He was ready for the brotherhood and commradery.

My son only wants a family gathering. I wish your son the best of luck.  I will be thinking of you in the next few days.  I know I am on a roller coaster right now.

My future sailor leaves on the 21st for bootcamp.  So 10 days left.  He keeps telling me how excited he is.  He is anxious to start his life.  Which I understand, he has been out of school for a few months and is bored.  I do also think he is more nervous than he is letting on.  He seems to be kind of mean to me then will quickly say he loves me.   I wanted to have a party for him before he leaves but he did not want one.  His buddies have just not matured at the same rate that he has.  He has planned his future knows what he wants to do. Worked hard to get his 4.0 his last year of high school and  can't wait to get to nuke school.

My husband shipped out on March 7 and received "the box" earlier today. Thought I would share for the ladies whose sailor left around the same time as mine. It was exciting to open even though I already had an idea what's inside. Now patiently waiting to get 'The Form letter' :)

@Tracie
It's nice. We sat in a room and waited for him to come out from signing papers. Then he sat with us for about 20 minutes. They called him and he went in another room. Then they called the families of said recruites and you went in the room and they were in formation. A high ranking navy officer came in thank us for supporting family members and then they all raised there right hand and took there oath. Most of us all cried and after ward we got to take photos one last time and they went to have lunch and get on the bus to boot camp about 50 minutes later I got a phone call from him telling me he made it safely to boot camp and he call me in 3 weeks. It's hard but it's for the best.

Michael don't feel bad about crying, it's ok to cry. I have a good friend, she is a Dr., and she told me not to suppress those feelings. I know I am going to cry on the day we take our son. He even tried to tell us we couldn't come. I believed him for awhile. Then friends of ours, and his good friend left for BC for the Airforce and I found out they were all there. So after some investigating I found out we could be there. I know he prefers us not to, but I would regret not going.what exactly should I expected?
I hope your days get easier. The end is in sight and you will get to be home with your daughter!
