Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

As my son told me goodnight last evening I hugged him a little longer than usual. He told me that my emotions just prove how much I love him. I started laughing and said, " Does that mean since your so ready to go that you don't love me". He looked at me (with that face) and saw that I was just messing with him and started to laugh as well. That's what I'm really going to miss. The kidding around and the way we make each other laugh. Your children have a way of understanding you that no one else has. A connection that's different from any other relationship. I'm really going to miss that.

OK ~ This is just a little reminder to join your state group. It is a great way to have the local connection too! With that said; I am looking for more Ohio N4M members. : ) ~ kk

kmorgan ~ He can leave his Passport at home. He will not need it in Great Lakes. It is just another thing he has to stow in his rack.

Speaking of these valuable items ~ Until the Recruits get their locks, they carry their valuables in the Rickie Valuable Sock = issued sock (clothing item); when loaded with their valuables is wrapped and hangs from their belt.

My son just came in, he spent the day with his Petty Officer getting all the "stuff" signed off. We thought he was leaving on the 26th but he just told me now he's leaving on the 23rd. My brothers, former sailors, told me to expect this. I keep telling myself to keep it together. I'm a single parent and he's my only child. How are we expected to do this.....

MEPS and the airport ~ any questions?

Sara A ~ They seem to get to a point where they want to start this part of their life; especially if they set their date several months in advance. They have made the plans, signed their contract, and want to go head-on into this new venture. My son did not leave until after 2 family weddings, and his sister's birthday. He stayed home for everybody else and starting chomping-at-the-bit to go into the unknown. So if you have an unsettled son ~ it is very common. : ) ~ kk

Bank info...for direct deposit of payroll. This is up to the Recruit. You can send his routing number and account number with them ~ but many prefer to join the Navy Federal Credit Union. They can join during boot camp - but not before (unless you are military and have an account already). They have some good incentives for them, and they have great accessibility while active AND inactive. The Recruits are given all types of financial information ~ you will be amazed at what they remember AND what options they choose. They also have a commercial bank, or two, there for them ~ but what I hear most take the Navy Federal Credit Union options. This is a great opportunity for them to mature with their financial responsibilities and their investment options. : ) ~ kk

My son is set to leave for Great Lakes on March 26th, 2010. We're in south-western Ohio. Being 22 years old he's already been to college and done some traveling so he's ready to go. I, on the other hand, and trying to hold back the tears the closer the 26th gets. His college was only an hour and a half away so I saw him often. He's my only child so the closer it gets the more I find myself wanting to tear up.

Chad's Mom ~ No...once they are placed in a division, their PIR date is set. The medical process is accounted for in the 7.5 week to 9 week boot camp schedule. : ) ~ kk

Bit confused today. Daughter in Hawaii, been going back and forth from Weather Channel to FB to Gmail to keep us with what was going on. That was a all day affair with lots more gray hairs showing up!!! Sooo when I was not watching Tsunami updates then I would check out N4Moms.....totally exhausted!!! So forgive me for being so confused.
