While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Some old advice; Crying is good! The best place to cry is in the shower. It works! Also, you are allowed to cry at stop lights : ) ~ good luck to you : ) ~ kk

It just started snowing here and it's coming down hard, but they say we will only get about an inch. Anyway, yes I do work. I am an Administrative Assistant for a Psychologist for the state and I also coordinate a psychiatric in/out patient clinic for a consulting psychiatrist for the state. My daughter had started college for Nursing and was accepted into an RN program, but felt that it was not the right path for her. She was also accepted into a Pre-Med program but felt that she was not sure if medicine was the way for her to go. She felt that the Navy could make her a better all around person and give her more opportunities. I am proud of her for making her own decisions. I too am also looking forward to lower bills. My gas tank will be as I left it when I get in my car. She works and makes decent money, but she likes things that I keep telling her she cannot take with her. Kids will be kids. I guess she deserves to spoil herself until she leaves. I don't think my food bill will decrease much. My husband is a junk food junkie and I am constantly on a diet. My daughter doesn't junk food it. She is always watching her weight and we work out together doing the Wii Fit. I will miss those times when I get home from work where we push each other to do better. I have already taken care of the POA and Medical POA. Like you said, you never know what will happen. I hope that I remember not to carry on too much the day she leaves. She does not like me pampering her. She asked that I do not come up to the hotel on the 22nd to take her to dinner. She just wants the goodbyes to take place here in Vineland. She feels thinks that I cannot handle it. We may just surprise her and show up anyway.

On the documents, all we have left to do is switch her bank account to a military account (Bank of America has military accounts) and get the paperwork for the direct deposit. I can't believe how fast the time is going by. She could have left the 2nd week in January but for my sake, took the 3/23 date. Thank goodness because it has given me more time with her. I think she took the later date to get into better shape and be ready for boot camp. She is so excited to be going. She has always been athletic and the physical part of boot camp I know she can handle. She has played ice hockey with boys for the last 10 years. Its the mental part that I am not quite sure about. She is very strong headed and will argue her point to the end. I just hope she will be able to bite her tongue and learn to listen better. Her recruiter said she is getting better in that department by working with him and his staff on a daily basis. He feels that by the time she gets to boot camp, she will be ready, willing and able to go very far with Navy life. She wants to be a lifer. Your son's decision to go into Seals is awesome. I have a friend whose son is in training in CA for the Seals. Its a tuff life but a such an honorable position to hold. If your son has been preparing for this, he will go far. By the way, what part of NJ are your from?

They will probably meet up on the way toBC. If he is working hard toward that goal, he will make it. My daughter has been working everyday with her recruiter doing PT and learning everything she needs to know before BC. Wish him all the best.
