My daughter left the first. I got " the box" yesterday and am waiting on the letter. That 1st day was a hard one. I found a day to day schedule that I've been following to feel like I have an idea of what she's doing. It's hard not knowing, but I'm very proud!

My son leaves May 16 so I know what  you are going through.  I still have a few days and try not to think about it much.  He has been home for a couple of weeks and we are enjoying the time we have left with him.  I wish you and your family a smooth transition.

thank you and you as well

I agree. Just when I feel ok and think I can do it, I break down

Good luck tomorrow.

My son left on May 1st and I got the "box" today. I was excited and he was just "okay" when departure approached. I am happy that he is following his dreams and as parents it is our job to support them even if it is not something that we wanted for them. We raised some amazing children and we have a lot to be proud of :)

Thank you so much!

Momto navymat - My son leaves a week from Sunday ... I am so proud of him. Yet, although I hide it from him, I am so so sad. Yesterday I did it to myself: looking at baby pics :-0 ... He's our only ... our baby boy who is growing up.

How are things going? My son leaves tomorrow. He is also my one and only too! I am still not sure how all this works. It is my understanding he will leave from recruits office tomorrow and go to MEPS to be processed and then to Great Lakes on Friday? I am so nervous...with so many mixed emotions....I am excited but then I just hope that he is successful and makes it through ok. He is determined to succeed but I suppose my mothering instinct is clouding things a wee bit.  Best of Luck!

Honestly, we're numb. We took him to the Recruiter's Office on Sunday - thought we were just dropping him. They let us drive him to the hotel to check in where he would be spending the night - and we took him to dinner! That was an unexpected bonus. We were at MEPS the next morning (Monday) for his swearing in, got to be with him for a while while they processed paperwork, and we saw him get on the van for the drive to boot camp. We're in WI.

Namaste, your emotions are SO normal. In fact, my husband's tears as we watched him drive away said it all. Yes, you're proud, but you're going to miss him, worry about him, and just want to hear his voice. Our boys are becoming men.

For your son - if you drop him tomorrow (Thursday) then he'll probably overnight at a local hotel, driven to MEPS on Friday for processing, and then driven to boot camp if you're local. Are you?!

Sooooo..things dramatically changed after I posted this. I was actually suppose to drop him off at recruiters office yesterday! So, when he arrived for what he thought was the 24 hour check in at local recruiters office, they actually told him that he was heading to MEPS yesterday. I have no idea how he missed this "small" detail (boy does he have a lot to learn!). I was working and could not get there in time to even hug him. He had to immediately head to house and get change of clothes and off he went. One of the officers actually picked him up from the house. I got this all by text communication from him. UGHHHH....I was really upset yesterday about it but now I am wondering if it was best....just "ripped the band-aid off quicker"....I suppose he is being processed now and will be heading to Great Lakes today. We are not local. The MEPS location for us is in WV and is about 3 hours away. I assume they will be flown to IL from there. Jesus take the wheel!!

I'm ok thanks, where before it was a feeling of hurt my heart never felt, NOW its the not knowing of how he is doing thats killing me. ugh! I'm here for you <3
