Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of May (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have May ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in May, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Let me just say this site has been a blessing for me. I knew nothing about what to expect or how this works and I only had a short time. The information and answers here have been wonderful.

Twinsmom my son left on may 9. I have also been thinking about PIR and the holiday. I haven't received the box yet...was thinking about calling Monday for the address. This whole thing has been a whirlwind for us. Our son was attending college and suddenly decided he wasn't happy and really wanted to join. Within a month of his announcement he had a contract and has left for bootcamp. The hardest part for me is thinking about how hard the first days are for them. I hope it gets better.

I hope I get to talk to him for a minute Monday... It seems like it will be a court scene with the guilty taken away  LOL

Well let me be the first to say that I feel that the families nor the recruit should have to pay for the phone calls...that is why I started this and I have been blessed with these donated cards...so please use them and hand them out... If anyone ever needs more...I will send them to them...I usually reply within a couple of hours, sometimes within minutes....so spread the word... thank you!!!!!

Comment by Recruit Man - Ronny on May 12, 2012 at 9:46pm

Don't be silly....let him use the cards and get more if you need them...they are free and I have more if you need them....I went to my sons swearing in too...it was great...and from there we went to the airport and saw him off....If you want more cards to send with him for others to use, just send me another email...I will send the cards right back....k

I felt the same way abt the calling cards.  I thought as long as we were in a position to get our son what he needed it would be taking advantage of other's generosity.  Maybe not, but it's how we felt.  500 minutes is what is recommended.

You will NOT regret going to MEPS Monday for his final swearing in.  It is moving, and perhaps more so when their leaving MEPS is announced and they walk past you and out of the building.  Take tissues, breathe, and don't forget to applaud when they walk by!!

Thinking of you!

I will get to see him Monday am for the swearing in.  I will take his cards to him then.I hate to use these donated cards. Will pick one up tomorrow.  I will pay and let someone else use the donated cards.  How many minutes would you suggest?

Comment by Recruit Man - Ronny on May 12, 2012 at 9:26pm

he will fly out on monday if he leaves tomorrow...and tell him to sleep on the plane!! lol...did you get the phone cards....?? Also, tell him that the first week will be the worst....actually the first day he wakes up there, he will think it is the end of life....but let him know it will get better EVERY day!! Tell him to remember and keep saying that!!! It will!!

Comment by MyLAS (My Lips are SEALed) on May 12, 2012 at 9:23pm

You all are so helpful.  Thank you for your kindness and support.  Trying to get everything ready for tomorrow.  We take him to the recruiter office tomorrow am.  I think he must fly out Monday.  We don't have a lot of info

Comment by Recruit Man - Ronny on May 12, 2012 at 9:03pm

I sent my son stamped envelopes only....I put 2 or 3 in each letter I sent him...I am not sure if he used them all or not....I just kept sending them...lol...I think they provided the first few envelopes and all the pens and paper....:)
