Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of May (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have May ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in May, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

JessicaB- I have a question about females getting their hair cut before boot camp... I did cut my hair already because I knew they were going to cut it. You said we can't wear barrettes or anything, but it has to be out of our face. My hair is off my collar now, but not really out of my face. I guess my question is what do you mean by out of my face? Like with a hat on?

Hi Again Willsmom. I haven't checked the page in a while. My son is shipping out from Texas. this is cool since that makes him eligible for the many of the great benefits Texas has for it's veterans, especially the Hazelwood Act. I agree with your guess that he will probably get Arabic though I prefer Chinese Mandarin. We'll see. Wow, time is flying and soon the May group will be shipping out.

Although I've known since October that my son would be leaving in May, I've handled it extremely well...that is, until today.  All I can think of is how very much I am going to miss him, how much he will change and how long six years is.  I know I have to "buck it up" and show myself strong, but my oh my, today is a tough one.

Hey everyone... I just joined N4M, although I am not a mom, because this seems like a really good place to get information. I joined DEP 14 Jan 2011 and I will be shipping to Great Lakes 11 May. Thank you all for posting great tips and videos. This is helping me prepare and know what is to be expected. I still have two months before I leave, but it's all I can think about. I'm trying to absorb as much information as I can!

Hey NYRican924.  Yes, he is training as a CTI.  I was in the Army, as well, and am finding that the Navy is quite a bit different.  My son, as well, doesn't know what language he will be training for until he gets there.  (probably be Arabic, the way things are going).  What state is your son leaving from?

Hi Willsmom. How nice, my son also leaves for Bootcamp on May 11th, and will follow on to DLI at Monterrey. His rate will be as a CTI, the only thing kind of scary is that he won't know what language he will be assigned until he gets there. I'm retired Army and it was nice to know exactly what you were getting already listed in your contract before reporting to BC. Is your child also training as a CTI?

Willsmom, don't worry he will bulk up at bootcamp. My daughter went in 5' 2" and 103 pounds. She gained 9 pounds and couldn't wear any of her jeans lol. All muscle :)

Yes, JessicaB-Sailor Mom, I did find it!  Thanks much!  He will be going to A school in Monterey, California as a CTI.  Btw, could you tell me what C school is?  Also, is it normal for a DEPPER to be so concerned about weight?  My son is far from overweight (I'd actually guess under!) but he said that he has to really watch his weight now and is not allowed to gain any at all.  Beginning to look a bit thin to me!

Hi everyone, I am a veteran mom like Diannep, JessicaB and others as well. I thought I would join this group and be around to help answer any questions that may come up now or after your recruit leaves for bootcamp.

I am so happy to join this re-join this group. This is the group I started out in last year because my sailor left in May as well. It sure goes by fast when you look back on it although you don't feel like it does when your recruit is at bootcamp.

About me & my sailor: My daughter started talking about joining early April last year. She went to MEP's April 14th, physical 15th, signed 16th. left for bootcamp May 25th, Was in 900;s preforming division in the choir, PIR July 23rd (Grad and Go on a chartered flight) Got engaged 3 weeks into A-school, got married Sept 3rd (Husband left for bootcamp Sept 7th), graduated A-school late Sept, Went to VA for C-school & graduated C-school mid Dec, She is now an AO and at her first duty station in VA Beach. She moved into her first apartment last weekend, Her husband graduates A-school today and will join her in VA Next week.  PHEW!!! So much can change in just a few short months. We have been through so much and have lots of experiences to share. If anyone has any questions at all please let me know, you can also leave a comment on my page if you like or add me as a friend.

Some advice for now and you may have already heard this but please tell your recruits that the mail is held for the first couple of weeks and not to worry you are writing letters from the moment they leave. Write every day if at all possible. They live for mail call. If you think it will help have them call your cell and leave you a message letting you know they will be okay and then you can listen to it anytime you need to hear their voice. My daughter did this and it really helped me. And tell them to tell all the deppers they see at the recruiter to tell their families about Navy for Moms. You will be surprised at how many families have never even heard of it. :)
