Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of May (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have May ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in May, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

gigi65: They get to keep their wallet!

jdmom65: I don't know why they don't correct the DEP book about items they can take. I knew they couldn't take razors, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste, etc. My son stayed in a hotel the night before with his group, used the hotel shampoo/conditioner, and left his toothbrush/toothpaste there (travel size). I think he shaved before he went to the hotel and didn't take anything. Don't worry...they get all of that stuff while at BC.

Hmmm....the watch is a surprise, but mine had no watch so I don't know. The address book? I thought they could keep those? Maybe he put that in by mistake? Maybe he thought he HAD to put it in? I'm wondering if you can write the addresses on a sheet of paper for him and enclose it in a letter to him. He may want to write to some of those people, if he has time.

Yes, we got the box today too. I was surprised to see the watch in there as well.

I'm confused and a little upset, I got my box and in it was everything he had. Including the objects the Dep book said for him to bring, such as small address book, deodorant, razor(not electric), and his watch with military time, that I ran to walmart and picked up while we were waiting for him to get on the shuttle. Anyone else receive every single thing home?

glk1962: I hope that you and your daughter are having some great talks tonight at the hotel before she gets to MEPS in the morning. I also hope you can see her sworn in. My son didn't want us to go to his...I sure wish I had gone to that, but had to honor his wishes. he was in a hotel the night before also. Hang in there and join boot camp group. We will try and help you through it. It does get easier, but the first couple of weeks of bc are tough on us parents. Mine has been through bc and A School, and is now stationed. So I'm hear to tell you that the sun WILL rise again! Hang in there...

Welcome, Keith! We have had men on our site before and we love it.. As you have found out, "Moms" are very resourceful, but sometimes we could use a "Dad's" opinion too! Congrats on your daughter's graduation! That's great. I know you must be so proud of her...she sounds like a very hard and committed worker...just what the Navy needs. It must be so hard for a dad to send his little girl off....but the Navy will take good care of her.
Make sure that you join our boot camp group. You will get lots of info there. We are all on here to get help and to help in any way we can, so ask any questions that you wish. Keep us posted on your daughter!

My daughter graduated from the University of Texas on Friday and Sunday she was was shipped to San Antonio before heading to Chicago. There was a roller coaster of emotions.
I am so proud of her and anxious too!

Yes I am a Navy dad and this is the best web site with so much information.

bricejenn: Congrats that your son is finally on his journey! I know my son was like yours...10 months in DEP...he kept asking them to try and move up the date (with no luck). He was so ready when the day finally came...although obviously nervous. When you are missing your son so much and feeling a bit flaked about the whole thing, focus on that PIR because is it spectacular! In fact, if you want, go on youtube and plug in: Navy PIR ceremonies. You will see some personal video posted. The "moment" is when those big doors open revealing the "troops!" And they make you WAIT for that...by the time it happens, you are so ready! Anyway, see you on boot camp site!

Well, the only good thing about the wisdom tooth extraction is that the Navy pays for it...and they get some "down" time to heal!
