Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of May (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have May ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in May, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Proud Mom: YAH! I'm so glad he stayed in touch with you! Mine didn't take his cell either, but literally didn't call until the short phone call, which I missed in the middle of the night because I had turned off my cell (figured he would call the home phone then). So at least you know he is safe in Chicago. Or probably Great Lakes by now. ...and the journey begins....and we are on our knees for all of them! These will be some busy days for him, processing, medical/dental exams, new clothes/shoes, etc. Does he have his wisdom teeth? If they aren't in perfectly straight, he may not have them for long! But again, wonderful medical/dental services there. They take great care of our children. Please post when you hear from him!

jdmom65: Yes, he will make it and so will you! Just remember....the first 3 weeks are the hardest...little contact. The emotional box comes "box without the kid." Form letter comes....that is usually a GOOD thing...has a few lines from your sailor. You learn their ship/div #s and PIR Date. First "real" letter comes usually in the 3rd or 4th week. You'll do the "happy dance" at your mailbox as we all do....because it truly is a very happy moment! You will finally get a call....and another "happy dance" will take place! Those are so very random...glue your cell to your body...bathroom included!

Good luck to you new moms. Vent on boot camp when you need to...and ask any questions that you have.

I wish I had read this site before my son left. I have been on an emotional roller coaster since I received his phone call, saturday. the phone call was way to short. I said he will make it, but will I? With faith and God's will, I'll make it too.

Anyone else had a son ship out on May 20th?

I'm a bit familiar with Vero. We vacationed there back in the mid-late 90's when my boys were young. Loved the area. Our favorite area now is the Juno Beach/Jupiter area. About 45 min south of you. My parents have had a place there for 37 yrs on the beach....love the beaches up that way and your way!
I don't believe I knew Cindy, but saw where she and her husband are listed in my 96 church directory.
Have you heard from your son today (does he have his cell with him?) I hope you get your "I'm here" call tonight...remember, it is "scripted" so it will be short and sweet! :-)

Hi, ProudMom: How neat that you are from here, and how neat that you GOT OUT! HA! I am 4th generation Miamian and it just breaks my heart to see how crazy this city has become. I have good friends at Calvary...do you know Jenny Wade or Becky Butler? Sisters. Wonderful friends. I go to University Baptist in the Gables....since 77. Changes there that are upsetting....many of my friends have left. But I still love the pastor and the music!

Proud Mom: I see you are from Vero...we're in Miami. Is it hot up in Vero, because it sure is down here! UGH! Well, that's ok as long as the hurricanes stay away! :-)

So glad that you bc moms are talking here. It helps so much, as you all know. Be sure to get on boot camp site too. The first 1-3 weeks are really hard, Proud Mom 72. Just know that and expect it. When you are really low, get on here and vent, ask questions, talk about your son. It does help alot. And, yes, JLC, it DOES get easier...it really does. You always "miss" them but eventually you will miss them with a smile on your face as you start hearing about their accomplishments at bc. Then at PIR, you will have the biggest smile of your life on your face! Just claim that, Ladies! Because it will happen for you!

Proud Mom: You mentioned that your faith gets you through....AMEN! You may want to join the Christian Chat group. Praying ladies who will pray for you and your son whenever you want. Another site where we try to help with each others problems too! Make sure that you all are on the boot camp site too, ok? LOTS of help on that one. Good luck, ladies! This is quite the adventure...I feel like I have "already seen the movie and know the ending before you" since my son is now at his 1st duty station. It is a great, if not emotional, ride!

https://www.navy-nex.com/command/customer_service/gift_card.html

When my son was at GL RTC, I sent him a NEX Gift Card. Although the NEX Gift card can be used at the Rickie NEX, he used his when he arrived at his A School location. I have included the link above. My best advice is to have the gift card come to YOU. Then you can enter the proper address and send it off to your SR at GL RTC. The link above will give you all the information needed. This is also a great "thinking of you" gift from grand parents, aunts, and uncles, etc. : ) ~ kk

Kimberly: What is the PIR date? Better to join/start a group with that...not too many moms in each division are on this site, but with the multi divisions on the PIR date, you will get a better reponse.
