This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in May...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of May of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Latest Activity: May 29

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of May (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have May ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in May, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

JLC: Doesn't it make you feel badly for the moms who are NOT on here and are worried after that scripted phone call that their child is unhappy? Yes, so very normal. They are being moved around like a herd of cattle...can be overwhleming! Glad you know he has arrived!

Candy: So glad that you got his first letter and it sounds like a good one! How did you know he was going to call next week? Did he tell you that? I know most of the time, they don't let them know ahead of time when they can call. Only the after-battle stations call is more scheduled. So I hope you DO get your call, but if not, you'll know that it isn't up to him. Calls can be "earned" and calls can be "taken away." So keep the cell phone handy and just be ready at any time...don't forget it in the bathroom or if you step outsideto get the mail, etc. I have read so many sad posts on here of people that missed the call because of that. Good luck!

Thank you so much. This website will be my "Linus blanket" during the adventure. God bless the Moms on here who encourage and inspire us to keep it together!

I can relate JLC. We drove our son to the recruiting office today and w/in 15 mins he was off to the MEPS. It was hard, but I managed to hold back the tears until we were out of sight. We plan to see him one more time at the airport and then wait for his cell phone in a box to return to us. I will also have my electronic leash on awaiting that "I'm here call." I have decided that it's all good from here, others have survived BC, and he is starting a new career, steps all in the right direction. May The Lord bless our kids w/determination and wisdom! We will miss them until PIR.

JLC: You will find that "military moms/wives" are so supportive of one another. A unique group that civilians can't understand. I know as a civilian mom, I sure didn't understand! We are all here for one another. So...just ask! Glad you were so brave....but cry when you need to. It refreshes the soul! Congrats on starting "the journey!"

Angie! OK! Sounds like a great idea! :-) He is still spooked by the area they are in...can't get over that. Doesn't help that the police and upper ranked personnel are telling the horror stories to them over and over and cautioning them so much! about not venturing out of their little Navy area!
And, yes, I agree. He WILL get through this. But will I????? :-) Thanks for the "sanity" prayers...I need them! Today has been quiet so far....so just maybe????

Colleen: He may not get to sleep tonight, but should get some sleep tomorrow night! They are very busy from the time they arrive for the next 30+ hours....and it goes constantly. He will have a wonderful sleep tomorrow night! I hope you get your call tonight!

Angie: Thanks Angie! I think I'll give my son YOUR number to call when he has maxed me out on texts/calls about crazy things! My "mom meter" can't take it anymore...a constant state of anxiety! :-)

Colleen: I know the fear you have...mine couldn't find his way out of a wet paper bag sometimes! But your son will find his way. They meet up at the USO center, which I'm sure they were told. Was he on a direct flight or a connection? I'm thinking that if it was a connection, he may have other recruits with him now. I know you are concerned....of course. Does he have a cell with him? If so, he can call you up until he boards the bus in Chicago. Mine didn't take his so I literally didn't hear from him until the "I'm here" call which I missed because it was the middle of the night on my cell...which was OFF! Stupid me...figured he wouldn't call until the next day. Anyway, you will feel better once you get that call....but until then, know he is safe and well watched. He will be up for a while now...they are very busy with the recruits when they first arrive....and they are up for between 30 and 40 hours...but my son never mentioned that (and he is a complainer!) so it must not be a big deal. I'm sure their adrenaline is GOING GOING GOING! Ok, Colleen.....you hang in there, ok? It won't be long before you are giving words of comfort and support to those newer than you are!
