Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of May (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have May ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in May, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

therevbev, I hope that he does call. If he takes a cell phone he will be able to make the "I'm here!" call. The info in Arrival and What Happens at the RTC will tell you what will soon be happening.

Well, tomorrow is the day. Since we're fairly close (less than 2 hour drive from RTC), he won't be calling when he arrives. Tomorrow the recruiter comes, Mon. AM we'll watch him be sworn in and mount the bus for Gurney, IL. I really thought this would be easier this time - 2nd son serving, 22 years old (not 19), US Navy - NOT Marines. Gotta say, it's no easier. Oh, I know this is the best for him, it's what he wants... just harder on Momma than I expected.

I received my call at 1158 Tuesday night. My son sounded a little tired. He left his room immaculate. That told me he knew he would not be there a while. Normally, he is a slob!

We stayed in contact Monday when he left for MEPS until Tuesday when he arrived to the airport. My next to the last call was in Detroit during a stop over.

I washed his clothing that were in his hamper. Trying to get used to him not being here. I`am at a point when the box and the letter comes, I deal with it. I want him to get through boot camp! I know everything else will be alright!

Waiting anxiously for "the phone call". I know he made it to Chicago since he called when he landed and was getting something to eat. Driving me crazy wondering what he is doing and how he's doing. This is going to be so hard!

Our son arrived at Great Lakes late Tuesday night.  He had not slept much before he left, so that was his biggest concern.  As soon as they were met they were told they would be up all night. He sounded good during his scripted call.  He kept telling me not to worry.  I miss his crazy sense of humor.  I really miss being able to tell him random stuff I come across during the day.  I'm praying for our boys and for all of us.  We've got this!

My Son also arrived in Great lakes last night, he flew out of Sacramento but had a lay over and we got the call around midnight that he made it there safely. I also got a text from his recruiter today with a mailing  address and a graduation date for him.. Not sure how accurate that is? all the things that I have read say not to believe it until it comes in the letter. My Son was able to text us during the day and keep us informed of his day, he made a phone call on his walk to the bus and then we got the call when he arrived. Tough night for sure.

Our son arrived in Great Lakes last night about 9 pm PST.  I was shocked it was so early, I was expecting it to be much later.  He was lucky to be on a nonstop flight from Sacramento to Chicago.  Said he slept the whole way :-)  He called me from Chicago and said it would the last call :-(  The scripted call was tough but I did slip in an I love you and he was able to say I love you back albeit kind of quiet.  I said everything ok.  He said "yep".  Had a tough time last night.  Didn't sleep much.  Finished his laundry out of his hamper today and that was tough.  Room needs cleaning but I'm not there yet.  Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Hang in there Tammym. My son leaves Sun/Mon. Everytime I look at him, I see that little boy barely walking (and he's 22!). I know the mixed emotions right now... we will do this - for them!

Said goodbye to my son tonight after watching him get sworn in this morning. Fly's out early tomorrow morning. So hard to leave him and wanted that hug to last a little bit longer. Thanks for the advice on holding it together until after we left him- I think it made it easier for him. Feeling very proud of him.

Our son just left for Great Lakes this afternoon. Let me just say it was incredibly difficult and we shed many tears. Looking forward to hearing from him tonight when he lands.
