Latest Activity: May 19, 2023

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of May (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have May ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in May, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

The default Privacy Setting on N4M is "Anyone." That means that ANYONE with access to the web has access to everything on your My Page. To change that, make change number 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile), While you are there, read the Page and see if there are other changes you need to make.

Hi there Beaus Mom!!  Sorry for delay in response!  Yes, I am trying to soak up every second and thankful for the time and nervous about all to come.   We are in North Carolina.   We had a nice Thanksgiving - her dad / my husband passed away in July 2013, so things are "transitional" for the holidays and emotional.  But he knew of her plans and supported her decision.  I know also that the time will allow us (her, me and my youngest / her sister) the time to further grieve loss of Mike while getting ready for her journey to start.

Hi jbflynt, my son leaves in May as well, May 6 as of right now. I know, I am soaking up every minute I can with him! You are right, it is right around the corner. Where are you located? I'm in Northern California. Take care and enjoy your time

Looks like I am first one on here for May 2014 RTC Ship Dates!!!  It seems so long in the future, yet I know it is only around the corner and will come quicker than expected.

Goodbye and good luck to all who have SR's joining the elite few who are a part of a wonderful Naval tradition.  Our son graduated on 7/12/13 in an unforgettable ceremony at the Drill Hall at RTC.  It was very impressive and we were so proud.  Enjoy it when your time comes.  "Fair Winds and Following Seas."

Ginj64 - OMGOSH! I am so sorry you missed all those calls! That had to be heartbreaking. Letters are so special, though, too. I keep mine next to the bed and read them at night before going to sleep.

MomLovesRyan and Ladichez - thanks so much you guys. I'm going to believe she's received my 7! letters!  LOL  Poor thing - probably inundated with them!  I'm just really hoping for a letter soon...like I mentioned before, I did get a call from her the first Saturday after she left that I sadly missed - but she left a good message and I enjoy listening to it periodically. She had a cold as I keep hearing most of our SRs do and got a job that she was pretty excited about. Sigh. I just want to hear her voice to be sure she really is okay you know?

Ladichez - ahhh, your SR is doing their PIR a week before my daughter. Enjoy!!!

navyboyzrus03 - I'm so sorry you missed the call but how wonderful he seems to be doing!!! Smart with your message - I think I'll do that as well.  :o)

Cant believe it but I missed my SR first call home. I never g anyway n Sundays but needed to get out f the house and went and had lunch with my mom. I had my cell phone on and he did call it, but for some reason it didn't ring. My mom and I both started crying when I realized I had missed him. Since I am a home health nurse I have a special message on my phone and so on the end f that I recorded a message for him to just in case. Glad I did cause at least in a way I got to tell him I love him. He did get t speak t his brothers. They said he sounded great. Said he was the youngest there which is funny cause he has always been that way because I started him to school a year early. He is playing his trumpet which he loves and is great at so I think that helps. But because he is in that division he won't get the same down time because he will have to be practicing. Still hate I missed him but he at least got to hear his brothers voices. He did my 9 yo wonders. He always call my little one his "mini me" in training. Mine had not receive any letters as f yet either and I know I am not the only one to write any.
