Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of November (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have November ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in November, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Well, my son is on his way.  We got to see him this morning, just before he loaded his bus to go to O'Hare.  It was very difficult, but I stayed strong.  His recruiter told me to not cry in front of him, and I did a very good job.  Now...??? Now I just keep taking deep breaths.  I have to go coach cheerleading today, and hopefully I can keep it together during the basketball game. :(

Our youngest son left for Boot camp LAST Nov. He's been through Boot camp, A-school, and c-school and has been doing his job in ATO for a couple of months now, We got a 2 week visit in Aug. He is doing well. Likes his job. It's been a good experience for him. I know how hard it is to have them gone and not know how they are doing especially with holidays coming up. (We have another son who is a former Marine sniper) But, this is their choice and we will support and encourage them. Best wishes to all of you whose son's and daughtershave just begun this journey.

My son shipped out yesterday and arrived safely last night at RTC. His brother turned 12. It was a difficult day for me!

It will be one year just after Thanksgiving that my daughter left for BC.  I know how all you Mama's feel.  Keep being strong for your recruit.  This is a wonderful site to be on for information.  Make your graduation arrangements as soon as you have the information.  Be prepared sometimes the date changes and it will be here before you know it.  Write to them everyday even though you won't get many letters back or phone calls.   Be proud of who you have raised them up to be.  God Bless all you Mama's and new recruits.  One year down and it's still hard when your child is stationed 8000 miles away but technology makes it easier than ever to stay in contact!

Hi Nurseduevi, my son leaves the 14th, and I'm overwhelmed! but there's really not much to do. My son continues to work out, trying to hit the 12:15 run. He's not there yet but will pass that first PFA. They take very little with them.  We drop him off to the recruiter on the 13th, he goes to MEPS to officially swear in, stays the night in a hotel, and flies out to boot camp the next day.  I'm going to say goodbye when we drop him off. He think it'll be too upsetting for him to see me cry at the airport, and it'll be the same at MEPS.  We're having a party the sunday before he leaves. He brings the clothes on his back, a slim black wallet with some money, maybe a small address book and stamps and that's about it I think. Anyone else have any advice? Hang in there. I keep trying to remind myself this is what he wants and I have to cheer him on, and not sob incessantly. I'm trying to be upbeat and encouraging.

Hi Nurseduevi and welcome.  My guy started his MEPS adventure over a year and half ago now and part of the DEP for exactly one year this week... and I still am overwhelmed often.  My boy leaves Nov 26th. I have learned most of the things I know by reading and reading and more reading...then I ask the recruiter questions and read more, but I am a need to know kind of mom.  His recruiters have been great.  Many ladies on here chime in and help out.
