OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

PIR October 2016 (for all PIR dates in October): PIR 10/28/2016 TG 51 - 6 Divisions (347-348, 950 and 951) 4 guests

PIR November 2016 (for all PIR dates in November): PIR 11/04/2016 TG 52 - 5 Divisions (351-354 and 952) 4 guests; PIR 11/10/2016 TG 01- 8 Divisions (001-006, 801 and 901) 4 guests (Thursday PIR due to Veteran's Day being a federal holiday on Friday); PIR 11/18/2016 TG 02, PIR 11/23/2016 TG 03 (Thanksgiving TG so PIR is on Wednesday)

Click on the group name of the month of your recruit’s PIR and join to connect with others with loved ones training with your recruit.

Comment by lemonelephant on March 6, 2016 at 12:49am: If you have a future Sailor who is going to be in an 800 division, let me know in a comment on my My Page or in a PM (or comment in a friend request) and I will connect you with others with loved ones who will later be in the same division. DON'T openly post your future Sailor's contract or division number. Those with a future Sailor (or recruit) in a regular division or 900 division can post the division number and can post the contracted rating or field unless it is for one of the Spook ratings, but those with a loved one with a special ops contract should NEVER post that openly. See OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and 800 and 900 Divisions.

If anyone else needs this info, leave a comment on my My Page with the rating or field and I will comment back on your My Page. I have info on every rating and field. I also have that info for the PACT programs.

Comment by lemonelephant on March 6, 2016 at 12:48am: It's not too early to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and to start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will be put on the Access List....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

PIR: 10/23/2015 TG 50 - 9 Divisions (353-360 and 950) 4 guests

PIR: 10/30/2015 TG 51 - 9 Divisions (361-368 and 951) 4 guests

PIR: 11/06/2015 TG 52 - 10 Divisions (369-376, 820 and 952) 4 guests

PIR: 11/13/2015 TG 01 - 11 Division 001-010 and 901) 4 guests

PIR: 11/20/2015 TG 02 - 9 Divisions (011-018 and 902) 4 guests

PIR: 11/25/2015 TG 03 - 10 Divisions (019-026, 801 and 903) 4 guests (This is the Thanksgiving TG and PIR is on Wednesday. Those flying out will most likely fly out on Friday, so if your Sailor will fly out, plan to leave late Friday or Saturday if you are able. If your Sailor will stay in GL, plan to leave late Sunday or on Monday.)

Comment by lemonelephant on October 4, 2015 at 4:27pm: Several have asked me, so I figured I'd put this up in case others are also wondering: If your recruit is part of the Thanksgiving TG (some who shipped last week will be), PIR will be on the Wednesday before (11/25/2015) and typically those who are flying out fly out on Friday rather than the day after PIR. SOME going to Pensacola MAY fly out on Saturday instead due to flight availability issues due to the large number of new Sailors with "A" School or training in Pensacola. Those who will fly to other locations will most likely fly on Friday. Those who are staying GL for "A" School or training will have daytime Liberty every day of the long weekend.

Comment by lemonelephant on October 2, 2015 at 5:54pm: VirgoMom904, yes, "No news is good news!" If you hear nothing from her, then she is expected to make it to PIR. There have been recruits who have been sent home who have notified loved ones in the first week and their have been recruits who called the last week indicating that they would be sent home. P-Days are the hardest on you, but they may or may not be the hardest for your recruit. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC. Think positively and let her know that you have faith that she will make it and how proud you will be when you get to hug her in her dress blues at PIR. DON'T indicate to her that you even think she will be separated or that she won't make it to PIR.

Comment by lemonelephant on October 2, 2015 at 5:44pm: Yes, the new recruits often will have been up for 40 or more hours before hitting the rack for the first time since they often got up to head to MEPS at 6 am or before on the day that they shipped and do not hit the rack until 8 to 10 pm the following night. Those who experience delays on the way to the RTC sometimes will have more time without sleep.
