Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

memkvtsi8, You sound like you have a fabulous family:)  I am glad you all get to go to MEPS to see him swear in, it can be a long day bring something to keep the kids occupied, and there is a snack area with vending machines. But It is so worth it to see them swear in, it is something to see our young men and women pledge to defend our country.     Praying all goes well for you and your SR.  Also I am from Jax are you?

so my son leaves next tuesday the 18th... i've been reading right along... this week is going by too fast... he is the oldest of my six children and i'm nervous for all of us... he adds a dynamic to my house that will truly be missed.. lots of humor and lots of music and singing... he will go to my daughters football games (his old HS) thursday and friday night to watch them cheer one last time.. my oldest daughter is a senior and she has been so sad that he wil miss all her final events at school... As far as we know, we plan to all be there Tuesday morning in Jax, Fl for his swearing in... My younger son (11yrs) has his irst football game as a drummer in the band.. my older son (who is leaving Tuesday) was the drumline captain for 3 years at his highschool... i'm so sad he will miss his little brothers first game.. but i am so proud my younger son is following his footsteps...I have such mixed emotions... i want him to go and become a man and get out of this small town and do something, but i am selfish too...

OMG!  We were just told that my son is now scheduled to leave for boot camp on Monday, 9/17.  I know it’s only 2 days less, but IT”S 2 DAYS LESS now!  He is happy about it, less time to stress and be asked the same questions by everyone, like “are you sure you want to do this?”  Really?  Why would ask someone that?  Do you ask that of others when they start a new job?  I keep telling myself that the sooner he goes in, the sooner I can see him graduate from boot camp and start his fabulous career.  So proud, yet feel so sad to see him go….the good far outweighs the bad and I will take it one day at a time.

Any San Diego Mom's out there?

ProudMawMaw, I am prepared for it to be rough on us both. The first year is really hard. They are going to be down sometimes and you are going to hear it in their voice and read it in the letters they send. Just keep telling her that it will get better and you believe in her. I have already been stocking up on Hallmark cards that are a blend of funny and encouraging. The Military Path is by no means an easy one, however I am possitive it will be the most fulfilling expierence that they will have for a lifetime. She will be fine and so will you.

The recruiter was male. I am really upset about this and wish I could say something about it. Don't want to get her in trouble. Hopefully she will say something if her stomach starts to bother her but knowing her she will suck it up. Her BMI was right on the money so I guessing that is what he was worried about. My daughter tells me that it did not make any difference it was at all. He had her so worried she wanted to take laxatives the week before Nd I said no she had to keep her strength up for the upcoming week. I mentioned it to recruiter and he said she had a week to build her strength up that the first week wasn't to physical.

I know that she is fine she is very strong and has been running 5 miles or biking five miles a day for awhile. This is going to make her even stronger.

ProudMawMaw...I just read your post below and am totally alarmed by this. Was the recruiter male/female?  Not that it matters..the problem is the Navy does use the BMI (mass to body ratio) and stick to it.... the fact that this happened the night before she left for BC troubles me because CN - not only cleans you out you also lose water in your colon -since this is SUCH a high anxiety moment for anyone, I hope if he lower GI acts up, she gets some med assistance fast and doesn't try to 'wish it away'...As for the Prep H -- it shrinks tissue (some people use it under eyes to remove puffiness) - I've heard this used with the saran wrap way back in my day when flight attendants were 'taped' before they could fly --you had to have a certain waist size, and that's probably what they were trying to achieve. it's a temporary fix... The poor girl.... God Bless Her - she's in my prayers tonight...One Determined Young Woman...the Navy is certainly Lucky she chose this branch of the service!

Oh ProudMawMaw, I am a mom of a daughter who left last tues.  I am so sorry to hear the happened to her:(  I just don't even know what to say, it really makes me sad.(and mad)  I know she is going to be one determined strong sailor.  It is obvious how much she wants it reading your post.  But in listening to your descriptions of her it is obvious she has a family that loves her so much and have made it clear that she is perfect:)

THe countdown begins for me and my SR.  He leaves a week from today and I think things are really starting to hit him.  We were planning a trip this weekend to say goodbye to his great-grandmother (84 and broke her leg the day before his high school graduation in June) and his grandmother (85) and numerous other family out of state (we live Vegas, they are live southern California) and just found out we can't go.  His Petty officer does not want the risk of injury or weight (his is under but close) this close to him leavine. We totally understand, but I had sent invites to a going away prarty at my grandmothers for Saturday night.  Oh well, better safe than sorry.

Thetwoj thank you so much. It isn't like I dont have enough to worry about then come home from airport, seeing my SR off, to read that her recruiter may have even messed her up more than I know of because she couldn't decide in 15 secondes what she wanted to do in Navy.

I also found out something that my granddaughter didn't want me to know from my daughter today. I am a little mad that the recruiter put her through this., my SR was a little thick around her waist and the recruiter made her rub her waist with Preparation H and wrap her midsection with Saran wrap. I have never in my life ever hear that this is a way to shrink your waist size. I know she was probably so nervous thinking that she would not make the cut to go to BC because of this. Please has any one ever hear of a recruit doing this and if it works well I may have to invest in Preparation H stock. They can making a killing if this was advertised. I had already been upset that he had mad her drink a bottle of citrus nitrate the day before her physical and another bottle in the hotel room. This is not a safe method of loosing weight and should not be encouraged in a world that young women or so worried about their weight. Believe me she is not fat and very tough.
