Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

not yet, we are still waiting. I was told it would be late like 12 or 1 am possibly

Oh I forgot to ask, he was supposed to fly, but they decided to bus them. Has this happened to them? We are about 380 miles from Great Lakes.

We made it through his leaving. We were able to go to MEPS and watch him swear in. On a side note my 4 year old daughter stood at the back and when the swore in she raised her hand and swore in with them word for word. I was trying to muffle her but was not too successful. Then she announced to the room she was going to be a soldier like her uncle since she was stronger than her brother. My son and I were both floored. He did good and I did not cry until we got outside.

Thetwoj I hope this isn't true because my granddaughter just left for BC this morning under PACT. We were told that it stood for Professioal Apprentice Carreer Track, she would get to try several different fields before she chooses what she wanted to do. Recruiter told us that this was because so many are so young that they just don't know what they wanted to do that this wod help them choose. We will find out in a couple of weeks.

Well we managed to get through the tearful good byes. I was a total disaster this morning. I was so nervous I couldn't sit still. When I saw my SR so strong and confident it sort of pulled me together and I realized that she is a strong, beautiful woman who knows exactly what she is doing.

You are such a wonderful granddaughter and I know you will make a great sailor. love you very much.

BTW I went into the room where they were all seated and thanked them all and good luck. She had already made friends. Leaving from New Orleans Chris, Ellen and Precious I so glad they all found each other.

I am so envious of those that were able to be there at your sons/daughters swearing in. My son or recruiter never even indicated that we could be there to watch. We only live 45 min away from the MEPS testing place. I was really disappointed when I found out we could have been there. My son was on the DEP. He will leave in 1 week. He goes to his last DEP meeting this thursday and I guess we will find out what the plan of action will be for Monday. I hope they let us take him over there and the recruiter won't have to do it.  Anyone else have a similiar situation they could enlighten me on?

Comment by pinkpuddles on September 10, 2012 at 1:01pm

Yes, I was there and so were a lot of other parents.  We were not allowed in the back but there was a waiting room for us and my son would come out and tell me what was going on from time to time.  I had a HUGE arugument with the recruiter because I felt like he was not doing his job and looking out for my sons interest.  He told my son he was scared of me....LOL but I dont regret making an idiot out of myself! So go up the chain and see what you can do.

Comment by Thetwoj on September 10, 2012 at 12:58pm

Pinkpuddles, you were able to go to MEPS with your son? See they took my son and wouldn't let him call me until everything was finished and he signed the papers. I wish I had known all of this before hand. The school councelors don't have a clue, you really are at the mercy of the recruiter for all your information if you don't know anyone to ask. It's a nightmare!
