Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

We are at 10 days and counting until our son leaves. He is leaving Ohio on the 10th, but has to go to the hotel on the 9th. He is so excited, but I am getting nervous.....
Moms...make sure that you go to callsforrecruits.org and get calling cards for your children to call home. They will send you 9 cards, 6 for your child and three for them to share with someone who does not have a card to call home. Someone told me that they put the toll free number along with the PIN in the back of the bible (they wont take that from them) I know it is sacrilegious, but that may be their only means of getting in touch with you for the first time. Each card is only good for 1 call and 20 minutes. Thanks for the update on the getting call situation. It is going to be a long three or 4 weeks til I hear from my son. Good luck to everyone.
Oh and pinkpuddles- you won't get a call for a couple weeks :( basically the first call is awful because they are broken down, but they get better as weeks pass
OMG! Push ups for a buzz cut?? That's almost funny :) Good thing you heard about it! They can take their cell phones with them to boot camp and then the cell phone will be shipped back to you... so you get those very, very last minute calls! Also, slip a note into their wallet. Apparently they can have a wallet and a nice little note will definitely cheer them up. It takes over a month for them to get a paycheck, so if they pay their own bills, might wanna "pre-pay".
One of the SR's who just graduated Boot Camp came to speak to the recruit candidates last week about what to expect during that 8 weeks. The thing that stood out for my son was that a kid who had gone to the barber and had his hair buzzed the day before leaving had to do push-ups until all the other guys in his group were done getting their hair buzzed. We cancelled his hair cut appointment.
Can you (melissaderbyshire) share the scoop, I want to know what happens that 8 weeks. I am so worried about the 8 weeks my son will be away, not to mention how much I am going to miss him. He leaves September 26 from Maryland. Is it really 8 weeks to the day or what, I am counting the days down already until I can see him at graduation, and he has not even left yet. I cant imagine my daugther leaving for BC. Hats off to the moms and daughters!
Sorry your granddaughter has to deal with all that at the same time! Not needed stress! I am depressed that I can't spend the last evening with my daughter in Charlotte because of the Democratic convention! The downtown area is LOCKED OUT! :( One thing I have been fortunate with is one of my co-workers' son is graduation today from boot camp, so he's been giving me the scoop on stuff!
Hi Melissaderbyshire, My daughter is leaving out of Florida. That is so funny about the hair, she finally went really short about a 2 months ago, so now we are just going to get it shaped up and ready so nobody at boot camp feels the need to do it for her, lol!! Durrich is a mom who's son is shipping out the same day, I think out of NJ, she has been a great help to me in this roller coaster ride of my life:) Please keep in touch.
