Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Spontino, my daughter has been texting me as well. I've been savory this texting time bc i know the time will come that I will not hear from her for a long while. She is still at the airport. Her flight doesn't leave for another 2hrs!  My stomach is still in knots from yesterday.

Thanks for your kind words :o)

The only thing that they can keep when they make up their box is wallet, ID, small pics in wallet, addresses on paper in wallet, cash (they won't need it at BC, it's more for food along the way), phone card, small Bible. JessicaB says a religious medallion and plain wrist watch are also acceptable.
Everything else will get sent home , donated, or thrown away...the recruit has the option...the fees for shipping are at the recruits expense. Some will go with old clothes on their backs and what they know they will be allowed to keep. That way they just throw the clothes away or donate and save the cost of sending a box home.

That's awesome you were able to take photos!!  I was so happy he was able to text me all day until he arrived at GL....he called me when he arrived in Chicago but his battery was about to die...But his texts I have saved and I read them over just about every day!!  Especially the part where he said he loved us!!  That was big for him....and huge for me!!  Ahh, the little things!!  Good luck to your daughter WandaG...the first few days are the hardest but it has been 15 days for me and it is getting easier...just waiting on the first letter!!  Your daughter will do great!!

Thank you Aubrey's mom and Spontino. I was able to take photos today during the oath which was great because they normally don't allow it but my daughter was the only Navy recruit shipping out. She is at the airport right now. I'm enjoying the little bit of text time we have before her cell phone is taken away.

We miss her but we're so excited and happy for her :o)

@ Jenn, I'm starting to do the same thing!  Cody leaves next Thursday.  I'm so happy everyone has given a list of things.  The whole laminating a card that he can carry in his wallet with everyones numbers is great.  I will be doing that today.

Diana - that is such a sweet thing to do!

I'm beginning the one week countdown today.  :(  Just planning on spending as much time together as we can - the last minute shopping for a watch, wallet and phone card, lunch at one of his favorite places - I know this week is going to fly by much faster than I want.

Comment by Diana(PO3/IT3) on September 21, 2011 at 10:11am

Thanks JessicaB....with leaving next week, not sure I have a lot of shopping time done but I appreciate knowing the size. That helps alot. One can tuck in some loving thoughts that way. Aubrey was going to write the addresses of her important people in her Bible....

One more Q:  What size wallet for the girls? Does anyone know? Must it be the same folded version a man would put in his pocket as well? The take with Bible and a plain wallet are last items on our list to pick up.

Oh, and I meant to share this with you all last week but I cut my hair which is now shorter than Aubrey's will be in bootcamp! I worked years to get it as long as it was. I actually love it. 10 minutes to get ready in the mornings and with my lifestyle, it suits me. It made Aubrey feel better about having to cut her waist length hair (which was thick and gorgeous, unlike my fine, thin hair :-/  )  Now we can grow our hair out together once bootcamp is over.  Oh the things we do for our loveys :-)

Bellac.....SO happy to hear you got that official call and can now relax a bit knowing she is well.  Hang in there!

Have a beautiful day ladies.......

I think my sons was a little under 4 x 6 size ( but not 3x5) and he was allowed to keep it. I couldn't find a measurement ANYWHERE! So I told him that if they sent it home it was okay with me...not to worry about it. I have read that they can get one in BC...it's just a matter of when...that's why we send them anyways.
Comment by Diana(PO3/IT3) on September 21, 2011 at 3:27am

As far as the Bible goes, what size is allowed? A pocket size? That seems too small. Is there one size up that will do? Does anyone have the measurements that will be acceptable?

Thanks on the list JessicaB. I like the idea of a letter/note tucked in the Bible. Such great tips to make the sending off and days there more bearable.

Please post your ship/div numbers if you get them from the form letter or the recruiter. It will help us direct you to your PIR group and it will also help us in figuring out when/if the next TG is forming.

Right now TG's seem to be starting on Wednesdays. The last two groups have been smaller and had 800 divisions in them.

Thanks!
