Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on September 15, 2011 at 8:03pm: We will be looking for the mom/wife/GF etc. who will be interested in creating the 11/11/2011 PIR group. It is possible that PIR will be on Thursday the 10th as the 11th is Veterans Day.

Probably someone who's recruit is arriving between 09/15 - 09/1320 to RTC to be on the safe side. So ladies if it is something you think you'd be interested in...Friend me and send me a message.

Please remember that when I post dates of when your SR may PIR...it is not exact. I am basing it on the earliest reports and making an "educated" guess on the cutoff date for a TG.

However, we like to try to get the PIR groups going so if you DO know the date (got your form letter already, some of you get it real early...lucky dogs!) I really hope you consider starting the next one!

I was glad I sent the cell with my son as I did not get "the call" from RTC. He told me at the airport,"This is my last call mom, love you, bye!"

I waited anyways! I did get a call on Sunday (missed it and he called AGAIN Tuesday - he ahd arrived the Tuesday before) though! He had a great Chief and RDC's! Thank You Chief and RDC's of (May 2011) 11/180!

Comment by Jenn (Proud AO Mom) on September 14, 2011 at 7:33pm: itseaya - oh yes, they can send and receive mail in boot camp - since they can't make many (or sometimes any) phone calls home after the initial "I'm here" call they live for mail. From what I've read on this site - even the guys who go in saying they won't write and don't expect a lot of mail from home usually change thier mind after they get there.

Comment by spontino on September 14, 2011 at 6:52pm: NavymomJanet - Those 2 days were the hardest for me and maybe the third day, but I have to say it has gotten easier for me personally. Good luck to your daughter, and she prob will be calling you late tonight or even after midnight. My son called at 2:15 in the morning!! My son left on 9/6, 8 days so far, looking forward to receiving a letter from him, hopefully next week.

Comment by Invisible12 on September 14, 2011 at 4:07pm: So, we had the last "family dinner" last night. Today the recruiter picked him up at 11am and now he's on his way to the hotel by MEPS. He's been texting me. Said he has to be up at 4am to get ready for the swearing-in ceremony so he's having a salad for dinner, going to work out in the hotel gym and then go to sleep! So far I'm fine. It's just like a normal day. Tomorrow will be different. I'm sure after I watch him take his oath I'm going to lose it!!!!!
