Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My younger son is actually happy his brother is leaving.  He thinks he's getting his room...LOL.

I know that it's hitting me. My son is leaving on the 19th, and I turn into a blubbering idiot every time I think of it. I didn't have the pleasure of raising my daughter (nasty custody issue), so this is the first child that has grown and will be leaving my care. Needless to say, I'm scared! But I'm also a proud momma. Sometimes it's hard to tell that I am, but underneath all the tears, I truly am a proud momma. My youngest child, age 8, doesn't quite understand that Bubba (big brother) won't be coming home when he leaves, not for quite awhile. I'm sure it will seriously hit him a few days after Bubba leaves, and he doesn't see him for a few days. Then we'll both be crying ourselves to sleep that night!

This is all finally hitting me!  My son leaves the 29th of this month and it's starting to really fly by.  We are having a party for him on the 24th and I think we all are going to be basket cases.  This is my oldest son and he is so excited to be starting a new journey in live.  My younger son is not allowing anyone to talk about his brother leaving because he gets so teary eyed.

Quite frankly, I didn't care if my son wanted a party or not - I needed it to keep me sane.  He was a depper for almost a year and I needed something to do with my brain.  He said he didn't want one at first but now he can't wait.  I don't think that all the kids leaving the same week graduate at the same time.  I'm sure someone will have an answer for you.  I'd like to know too.

My child would not let me throw a party. He wanted a very nice dinner out with the family and his girlfriend. I was looking forward to planning it. We have a awesome group of bike riders called the Brazosport Calvery that volunteer their time. Most of the riders are veterans. The come sometimes up to 30 riders all on bikes with police and fire trucks to the party and make a really nice presentation to kid leaving out. It gives you goose bumps to see them coming down the road. Matt's cousin leads up the group. He really wanted to do a ride for him. Matt does not like much attention. I think underneath that tough apperance he is getting very nervous. It is impossible to get any info from that kid so this group has been great for me. Do I understand this correctly, I notice that a bunch of kids go out through the whole week. Will all these kids end up together on the same graduation date. I am assuming that there is so many kids that it takes days to get everyone through processing and everyone coming at once would be a nightmare.

Mistyem - Xanax is also my best friend, along with other things!  LOL.  Anything to get me through this.  My son leaves a week from Thursday and I'm not dealing too well.  Pretty much numb.  I feel like I'm just going through the motions.  The only thing that has kept me going is his party this Saturday.  I've been planning it for months.

Trisha - I know the helpless feeling.  For the first time, things are out of our control.  They're not children anymore and giving up that control is very tough.

Thank goodness we're all for each other.  Don't know what I'd do without N4M!

I watched a few video clips of EOD where they went into a battle situation where the field medics needed the area swept for the land mines. EOD worked along with them clearing the area and  treating the soldiers that had lost limbs and had horrible injuries from land mines going off. I made him watch the videos and he has been working with a EOD and some Navy Seals each month, so he has been able to talk with them. I think zanex will be my new best friend. These are all great kids going into service for all of us. I think you deseve a pity party for just a little awhile. You raised that kid for a long time. It is not easy letting them spread their wings and fly. I hope you have a good day and  I hope you find something that will make you laugh and bring you some joy! I am dreading Monday! My turn will be here to soon.

Oct. 28 is early...that would be great.

Trisha7--I think Diana is right.  He is trying to make it easier.  I don't think they realize that no matter what they do, it will not be easy.  Mine left yesterday and I'm a mess.  I have to go to work today when I'd rather sit home and have a pity party.

mystyem-mine is an adrenaline junkie too.  He's hoping to work with the marines as a field medic when he's done with A school.

I am really thankful for all of your thought and comments. I did not think my son would care to much for the scrapebook thing but I went ahead for my benefit and made and took all of his photos from birth up and put them all out so I can get them organized for the book. He loved it. It was fun sitting with him and talking about some of the funny things he did when he was little. The photos did make me cry more. I had to go to the vet that day because we are boarding the dogs while we go fishing this weekend and I was not going to be able to pick them up till Monday afternoon and I just started crying my eyes out. I could not even explain to the poor girl that I was sad because My son would not be able to see the dogs before he leaves. I know get to pick them up early. He will leave next Monday and fly out of Houston Tuesday. He will be going EOD when he is finished. Yes, my kid is a adrenaline junkie.
