Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

But I also hope each of you will be able to attend your SR's swearing in...

SR says there are 5 DEPPERS all swearing in on 6Sep and all of them are Nukes.

At the least minute i brought all sorts of pics and a few report cards, etc downstairs and put them on the dining room table. DIL brought the scrap book and some navy blue candles that she found at Target for the center piece. Had thought party would be on the patio, but most ended up inside around the table and in the living room. Blue and white theme all around.

I almost forgot the tattoos, but brought them out and everyone participated. I have a small rose on my left wrist. Most of us are going to a wedding on Sunday, talk of all showing up with our Tats still on. But one of the bridal members put several on his neck and one on his forehead. I will be in big trouble if he shows up that way!

SR's core high school friends were all here (with dates!) and now they are showing up again tonight for SR's work party.

Brother in Law even showed up and you would never know he was just in the hospital. Good thing is he is committed to quiting smoking and hasn't had one. Father in Law is still in hospital, but should be released today. I hope you will be able to attend SR's swearing in.

I feel much calmer today. Thank you everyone for your concerns and allowing me to vent.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on September 2, 2011 at 5:50pm: I got my son a set of travel items...knowing that when he got to BC that he would either have to donate unused items or just throw them away. Sometimes there are fight delays...so I wanted him to have it. They won't have to get rid of it until they pack "the box." I had bought a cheapie black mens toiletries bag and told him that he could donate it or send it home...whatever he liked.

I knew what the "atmosphere" was going to be like once he got there...was concerned the homesickness would slam into him...so I looked him right in the eye and told him I knew they would get discarded and it was all right.

I wanted dimensions for the "small Bible" and never could find any...that's how much I worked myself up! I had a small one engraved with his name on it...but since I wasn't sure...I told him if it gets sent home THAT was okay too...I had just read that a Bible would be provided if they asked.

We had the discussion about how to notify him if anything happens; he does want to be told but he wants to get a letter, not by the Red Cross. That was a conversation I hated having.

Do they take toothbrushes and deoderant to MEPS for the hotel or is that stuff there? I'm assuming they wear the same clothes to MEPS that they did for the trip to the hotel. I'd like to get some travel sizes if he needs to take them, so he can just discard it when they leave the hotel.

Can't believe it's almost here. Only 2 days left with him. Prayers to everyone else who is right there with me! ty's Mom, Diana, Bandito's Mom...and anyone I may have left out. I joined the Boot Camp mom's group yesterday, but so far this one is better! Should change once he gets his ship/division group.

Got out of work early so that I can get things together for tonight. I know that it is tough, but I am glad we are all staying on this page as our Recruits leave. It does help to know what happens
