Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

@gabbyhat - Postcards, what a great idea! I did call my son this morning at 0500 (practicing the time stuff lol) and he was eating breakfast with the other recruits at the hotel. Turns out they ARE going to fly to Chicago instead of taking a bus so I should get the call today/tonight some time.... He did sound more subdued than usual, but it was probably because he hasn't seen the early morning in quite some time...but he'd best get used to it!

@Diana-I'm glad your son has begun his journey and hope that he will call you. Wrote my first letter(well, letter on a card...filled up every blank space I could find on it)yesterday while surfing these groups and waiting for her call. She left her cellphone with her dad as it was already turned off. Had 2 nice girls willing to share their phones with her for mycalls and a txt. Neat how they already start to form their little community. I could hear quote a few different voices(male and female) in the background laughing and cutting up at the airport. Her later txt and brief call sounded a little more stressed but I expected it. Going to get postcards today after work. Hang in there!

@jck33-I'm sorry your daughter had so many problems with air delays. Glad she's there now. What's her rate?

Well my son got to his hotel last night and said he'd call but didn't... :-( Heads to MEPS at 0600 then gets on a bus for GL. I hope his cell phone wasn't messed up when he wrecked his truck yesterday, At least he has a calling card....

@ryansmominarizona - I'm sure your son has everything he needs since from what I read they ship most stuff back anyway! :-) I'll be waiting right there with you for the I'm Here call!

@gabbyhat - So happy you had a nice long call in addition to the I'm here call. Stay strong and write lots of letters, I know I will!

Wow, just got a long call from my daughter...finishing up dinner at O'Hare before she boards the bus to go to GL. Apparently, last bus leaves at midnight. She sounds so excited and happy...apparently met up with another AIRR SR she had been corresponding with thru Women Redefined on FB. They will be in same division at GL. They sound like they're ready to go...can't wait to hear what she thinks of everything! Hopefully, we can get a PIR group up and running in a few weeks. Thoughts and prayers are with everyones' recruits that they make it to GL safe and sound.

thank you all for the kind words and well wishes for my son today! I was hoping to get to talk with him tonight but haven't been able to get him on his cell phone....I hope I didn't miss my chance earlier today....I did leave him a voice mail, hopefully he'll get it.

@ladypinkhatter - I agree with you, it does seem like other people around me are making it worse than I want to feel about it. It's not that I won't miss him terribly, I just know this is such a GREAT thing for him!
Comment by Laura (Ship 7 Div 355 PIR 11/5) on September 13, 2010 at 8:38pm
@JessicaB, so when we get the letter it's his permanent address, but they will get the other mail to him?
