Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My son arrived at GL last Wed. Looking forward to getting "the box" and his address and graduation date. Does anyone know anything about the 800 division boot camps?

When I got the box of clothes his pants were rolled up to mid calf. Anyone know why?

@Diana(Charlie'smom)Would love to meet up with you in P'cola once they get there. I'm hoping I can get there maybe long weekend Jan or Feb. Gotta get off work. Plan on driving,
As far as insurance, depends on your carrier. Both my husband and I are veterans. have had USAA insurance(cars and house) since I was in military. Great insurance, gotten a little pricy since Ike hit here; however, they are miltitary focused. Used to be only military members only. They might be the only company most likely to cut ya some slack (ie. minimal insurance, storage insurance only, etc) Check em out.

It was great getting the box, there was a little (two sentence) note in there. Made my day and then the phone call in the evening. I was walking on cloud nine. This seems like a great site.
Gabbyhat, hope your able to talk to your daughter before she leaves for GL.
Diana, I know in some states you can change insurance to parking only. I would call insurance company and let them know his status, maybe they can help you. We took our son off our insurance since he'll be up in GL for a year or so and not sure if he can have a car. Well, his is a motorcycle, but yeah.

Laura(Alex's mom) nice to meet you on the site. I can't thank these women who started this site enough! Wonderful wealth of information AND support. So different from when i was in the Navy back in the early 80's. Winged it ALOT. Of course no internet then either. What would we do without technology,,,,
I hope you hear from him soon! I still don't know if my daughter is going to send the box to me or her dad. She leaves for hotel today. Haven't heard from her...know she's busier than a 1 armed paperhanger but I hope to reach her today!

Jessica, Div 355. No PIR date yet.

Diana, Alex will stay in GL for school from what the recruiter said. Hoping to be FC. I took him to the hotel Monday, luckily his dad was able to see the swearing in on Tuesday and spent time with him til they took him away. The first two days I was in tears at the thought of him being away so long. We didn't receive the 30 second phone call. He was hardheaded and didn't take a phone card, but luckily someone he met loaned him one. We sent one in the first letter, so he'll have one whenever he gets mail. Can't wait til I can talk to him again.

Hi Laura! Where will you son be heading after GL, but more importantly, how are you holding up? This is a GREAT site with lots of support. My son leaves from Baltimore this Tuesday.

Gabbyhat - Do you know (or any of the other mom's know) if you can put car insurance "on hold" for our recruits since they won't be around to drive them? My son doesn't have a new car so it's not like there's a lien holder....
I live in North Port, FL about 30 miles south of Sarasota. So the drive is the same time wise. Maybe once our future sailors are there we can meet up? The company I work for has an office in P'cola so there are a few hotels in the area we get discounts with, but I want to be able to stay as close to him as I can.
I am hoping to talk with Charlie some time today, and my husband wants to get online and game once more. We are low on the totem pole however, since his gf is with him and she heads back to college tonight so I think he'll be spending most of the day with her. But there is always tomorrow.
Don't worry about being windy....I get that way too!

Diana/Charlie's Mom...Too funny...last comment. Katy was always breaking cars...went thru 3 in the last 2 years...Thank god her grandfather finds old cars and rebuilds them. Of course she's carless now.
I live in Kingwood,TX bout 25 miles northeast of Houston. Made that P'Cola to Houston run many times back in early 80's when I was stationed there. Hate I-10....so boring and gotta watch those Lousiana cops. I drive a red Mini Cooper S(midlife crisis car according to my 25 yearold son)and tend to push it...gotta have a fuzzbuster, lol.
One of my girlfriend's parents(also ex-Navy) travels there once a month on business. Stays in her parents retirement hi-rise downtown..Wants me to stay with her a few times, then catch a ride with me back to Kingwood(she lives here as well)That takes care of where to stay:however, she's also Navy(reserves) and has stayed in Navy Lodge alot over last 20 years. She told me that our kids could get us in there. Good rates, right on the water, on the base. Check it out.
I am so excited for Katy. I wish I could spend today with her. Alas, she's up there, I'm down here. Hope to catch up with her via Skype or phone later. Sorry, I get windy....
