Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Angie...I wanted to teach him to iron before he left. He told me he wanted to do it the way the Navy taught him. My daughter told him that I could teach him my tricks for speed. He did not buy it. I sent him a letter telling him I am going to iron every evening ~ just like him! ~ kk

Our Recruit's update; left for GL BC 9/21, arrived that evening and transported prior to 2200 hours, received scripted call via his cell at 2250, received his box 9/24 (with a shown shipper date of 9/22), called recruiter for current address of record evening of 9/24 (awesome guy), received address via phone from recruiter on morning or 9/25, and still running to the mailbox constantly looking for my form letter. No mail today (Sunday) ~ but I hope to find it in our mailbox on Monday! Since I have not received a form letter, no arrangements have been made for our travel.

I hope he tells me more about his ship/division when he writes. He is on his way!

Our recruit left a mature young adult with goals. I look at his Navy experience as the opportunity to pursue those goals in depth. The added benefit of fine tuning time management, tidiness, etc. is an added benefit! : )

I know our recruit will be there for your sons, daughters, and grandchildren, etc. And later to serve and benefit all of us. Knowing this helps me, and my family, to back up the "missing him tears" with "he is awesome and will help others succeed proud tears."

Our recruit and his sister, have been called "old souls." ** Please encourage your recruits ~ and do not call them babies. ~ kk

** "The particular life challenges and destined events that are the hallmark of being an old soul...
If you're an old soul you will undoubtedly be giving, caring loving and compassionate - all wonderful attributes that we are taught are the signs of a developed person who cares for others, and the actions that we take that may affect others." ~ quote from Steve Gunn; SearchWrap.com

Nette - she had 3 recruiters total. Ist one phased out of the N one month after she signed. 2nd one wanted to stay but N didn't resign him. 3rd one has been less then helpful, informative, motivating, etc...... She didn't even know that my D would be at MEPS from Mon to Wed not just Mon then flyout tues. Had to run down clothes just so she didn't spend 3 or 4 days in the same ones.

Grrr. That's what really frustrates me so much. There are so many great recruiters out there and we get stuck with not only one flake but two of them. I wish her first one hadn't quit until after bootcamp.

At least you got his address. I called my daughters recruiter and he said he couldn't get the information for me until Monday. Sucks. Why I should be surprised I don't know, we have not had much luck or cooperation from any of her recruiters at the office.

Angie F. I have kept my son's name (first, middle, and last) private I am a stickler about privacy and confidentiality ~ as it has been my profession for many years. Thank you for your concern but that comment had a meaning it was not an actual person. Off to change my screen name to it now : )

Still have a few days before we can expect the kid in the box. Don't expect the homesickness that I am hearing about from some. She spent 4 months in Indonesia last year. Maybe I should be worrying more about extra pushup when she starts getting her mail. I work for a school districk and have several classes sending her mail. Plus I come from a large family (7 g & 2 B). Could mean trouble. Good thing she is in such good shape.

So I guess this is normal on the day you get your box ~ I was leaving the house and looked down to find out I was wearing one fushia colored flip-flop and one black clog ~ laughing. At least I was carrying my black & white tap shoes!

I received my box today. I was shaking as I opened it. I removed everything ~ then repacked all but the shoes. It is staying packed for a while. My son's jeans were rolled up and the battery was still in the telephone. The repeat waves of tears comes really fast. I miss him...but I also have happy tears. He will gain and the Navy will gain. I love you Shackleferd! ~ kk

Pmtina, Don't know. I know that Lisa's heather has been waiting 2 days for divisions to fill. Needed more kids to show up. We will know soon. I plan on hounding the recruiter on Friday so I can send out the letter I wrote today. She doesn't know it but I have about 6 different school classes who are going to write to her as well as family and friends. She won't know what hit her. We heard from Aubree via her cell phone ( almost a 1 minute call) at 7pm california time. So about 9pm chicago time. Apparently had a long wait for transportation at the airport having to wait for other flights to arrive. Glad it has started so we can begin the countdown. Now it is Kid in a box and letter time. Be patient and good luck.
