Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hi Ladies, Aubree flew out of San Diego this morning and has landed at Ohare already. She has been texting me updates including that she has kept all her little ducklings from straying. Wouldn't want to start her career by losing a recruit. She said that they have government meal passes for the resturants at the airport and they don't know yet how long they expect to be there before transportation arrives. She said she was able to sleep almost the whole way so that should help with the long hours ahead. She sounds good, upbeat and we will wait for the expected official phone call.

Amanda ~ No...no address yet. But I did not expect it until Friday (from the recruiter), then when it comes from my son. I am gestimating 11/13 or 11/20 for us. My daughter is "going live" with an EMR (electronic medical record) implementation. She is nervous about being two places at once. I told her the decision will be real easy to make as the weeks pass. Great Lakes for you!

Dawni ~ I was wondering when you son left to have a PIR date of 11/13. I estimated my son would be a 11/13 or 11/20 with a GL arrival date of 9/21. Thanks ~ kk

Hello to all. I did not get to read all of the posts before I left for work ~ but I will for sure on my lunch : ) I would like to state that when I get my "kid-in-a-box" I will be hugging all of the sent home items except for those New Balance Boats! My son gave me permission to wear one of his favorite hats while he is at BC. When I open the box, I will know we are 1.5 to 2.5 weeks in. Have a great day ~ kk

Hi Ladies, Back from MEPS in San Diego. Exhausting 2 days. Not expected to but had to go down to take extra clothes as they held her over at meps an extra day. Come to find out that it was planned that way and her recruiter either didn't know or didn't tell her. Stayed the night and went to her swearing in. SO glad it turned out that way even if it took several hour drive and a mad rush. Lots of pictures but can't post them as she is IS. She flies out tomorrow morning and has already been told she will head her group since she is E3. Talk about instant responsibility. So proud so tired as well as my turn to wait for the phone call, letter and box.

Once again a big thank you to all the ladies, espically Lisa who arrainged a hotel room only 3 minutes from the MEPS station. Love you kiddo and you are in my heart and prayers.

September is almost over...but for the N4Ms that have not started the send off to BC journey. The volunteer staff at the airport USOs are very welcoming and helpful. They have a sign in policy to make sure that the groups head for their gate on time. The Recruits ("shippers") are so tired after the long MEPS day that the comfy furniture, internet, and snacks are great and in a quiet environment. ~ kk

Debbie, My son did not leave Hopkins for O'Hare until after 3:30 PM yesterday. I do know that they landed, ate, and he called me for the last time before calling for transportation for his group. He warned me that it was my last call from him before the "15 second scripted call." When I received the scripted, to make it easier for my son, I replied, "Thank you and I love you." He added "I love you too" to the end of the conversation. I am so proud of him. Be strong when you get the call ~ kk

I received my phone call at 10:50 PM. I knew about the process from many of you ~ thank you! It was not startling knowing in advance.

MEPS most of the day, then the airport for about 1.5 hours at the USO. My son should be in Chicago right now ~ calling for their transport to Great Lakes. They put him in charge of the group. It was so funny to watch them ~ as if they were on a field trip! : ) ~ kk

I'm with several of you. Aubree will be off to MEPS in SD, leaves the house around noon. Good last weekend, tough last night as she chose to spend last night elsewhere, so I won't be able to say goodbye this morning as I am off to work. I will just wait to get her next text or phone call as she is taking her phone. She will probably call while we are at the Angel/Yankee game and won't be able to hear her. Mixed emotions as I know she is an adult but proud of what she is doing. OK have to go get ready for work and don't have time for all 263 N4M post that I am behind on. Moms have a good day.
