I am wondering. Are the MA A schools having any delays at all? Or backed up? My fiance is going it A school after his graduation on July 19th. How long should I expect him to be at one of these?

MA "A" School is 7 weeks once your Sailor classes up. Many are still in holding about 2 weeks prior to classing up and some for 3 weeks, but not very many. The only MA "A" School is near San Antonio, TX at Lackland AFB; the last of the other schools closed in October 2008.

Join San Antonio MA's; there is a "Break down week by week" discussion that will let you know what happens at NTTC Lackland (San Antonio). Other groups to check out are New MAA Mom's (it has not been very active) and Security Sailors (it is not as active and includes loved ones of Sailors from other ratings as well). The Rating Information Card for MA can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ma.pdf. It indicates 9 weeks, but as I said earlier, "A" School is 7 weeks after classing up.

Join the group, PIR 07/19/2013 TG 36 – 7 Divisions (265-270, and 936), to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR. I also invite you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well.

So if he left on Saturday the 20th or Sunday the 21st from great lakes when do you think I could expect him back?
Thank you very much for responding to my post!

You are very welcome. Plan on 9 weeks, but it could be 7 to 10 weeks in San Antonio, before he has Leave and goes home for about 10 days.  You won't know his graduation date from "A" School until he classes up. He will most likely fly out to San Antonio on the Saturday after PIR. (See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones).)

Hahah! Thank you again! My mom will be happy about that. that means more time to plan a wedding and she can take he trip to greece! We are getting married on his 10 day leave. thank you for the links they helped a lot!

If you want to be on his orders for his first duty station, you may want to go to San Antionio and have a court house wedding after he phases up and can leave the base (about week 3 or 4 after arrival) and then have the ceremony with family and friends when he is home on leave.

Yeah I was thinking of doing that. My mother is going to throw me out after his 10 day leave whether he is stationed where I live or not. Do you know if that could be arranged? me marring him down there?

Where he is stationed is based on the needs of the Navy and you can only be on his orders if you marry before he gets his orders. He needs to check with his sponsor once he gets to Lackland and let them know that he would like to get married before the orders are issued. He will have to get a chit approved for him to get married and will have to be sure he knows what the two of you have to do.

I asked this before. But if I marry him on his 10 day leave. Will I have a problem moving to where he is? Will he be able to help me out with the move at all psychically or money wise?

If you are not on his orders, then the money to move you will come out of your (or his) pocket and he won't have any time built in to assist you with the move. Also, it is possible that he could get orders to a place that you cannot move to. Even if you marry before he gets his orders, there is a chance that he could get unaccompanied orders, but the chances are better for accompanied orders if you are married prior to the billets being offered.

my daughter is currently in her 5th week of MA "A" school after her PIR from Great Lakes on April 26.  She was at Lackland for a full week before her group classed up.  It is impossible to tell now when your sailor will be finished. IF he classes up on July 22, he would graduate Sep 6, but there is no guarantee he will be on that schedule.  It depends on how many MAs show up any given week. Your sailor might not graduate until Sep 13 or even Sep 20.  The nice thing for you will be that once he is at Lackland, you will be able to communicate with him and he will get his orders and his graduation date will be on his orders.

By the way, my daughter said the "Break down week by week" listing is quite close to the schedule they have. She loves the training and is doing well on the tests.

wonder cat, thanks for confirming that Break down week by week is still pretty accurate. I have updated it several times since I first posted it. I'm glad your Sailor is doing well and loving it.

The page you made is very helpful. I am glad I could know a bit about it before my fiance goes to attend it.
