Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

Bryansmom, when Kelcie graduated in SA, we couldn't go either, but my brother in law was living in New Mexico, and he drove down for it. I guess is is NOTHING like PIR, but I was still glad that she was able to have someone there with her. I'll tell you ladies one thing that I have learned over the years of Kelcie's being in the navy. The navy is a VERY small world. She has crisscrossed paths with so many of the same people, from basic, to A school, to both of her duty stations!! It has been really cool.
Kimmydee.....start saving now for a trip over while she is there! I'm going next month to surprise Kelcie for her birthday. Her boyfriend has set the whole thing up. I can't wait!!!

Thanks, ya"ll. I was just worried that Bryan would be the only soldier without a parent there and he wasn't asking questions about the plane ticket. Kimmydee, Bryan and Sarah are friends. I seen her on his facebook account. Bryan is going to be stationed in Jacksonville FLA.

Kimmydee, my daughter is an MA at Yokosuka, she is assigned to the USS George Washington. While they are in port, it is a LOT of patrol duty. There is quite a bit if protesting that goes on at Yokosuka, I guess because the GW is a nuclear powered carrier, so they have to keep pretty tight control on who comes onto base, and even have to guard the harbor, because protesters try to get in on small vessels. Atsugi is only a couple of hours from Yokosuka, and a lot of the flight crews and mechanics etc on board the GW are based out of Atsugi. Do you know if she will get to be part of the security team that goes out with flight crews, or will she pretty much stay on base all of the time? She might not even know that yet. Kelcie said she actually prefers being out to sea, as she has more varied duties when they are out. She acts as bailiff for hearings, works dispatch as well as patrols. Of course, she was only in Yokosuka for a short while before the GW went out to sea, so now she is more "established" so duty while on base might be more varied when they port back in Yoko for the winter.

Our MA Chris told us the same thing, as Kimmydee59 related. He got his shield, said he felt "shiny!" Yes, We've a wierd kid, but we love him! He came home, afterward, for a couple weeks, working at the recruiters office to earn more leave days, then off to Bahrain for 2 years. His travel plans had to be complete & approved before he left from TX, to NC, & finally to the sandy island.

Is anyone going to the MA graduation on October 14? My son graduates that date but I have no information on it and don't even know if we will be able to go. He says that he will have to pay for the flight home before he goes to his duty station. He said the Navy only pays for the flight to his duty station and won't change it to home. He will be stationed in Florida so he is driving there instead of flying.

Thanks Deborah, I am so glad your son made it safely there. I will keep him in my prayers. My son is about 8 to 10 weeks behind yours. He is home on leave after SA and will be leaving for Gulf Port soon. Thanks for the information on San Diego. It truly helps to know what to expect.

Deborah, so glad your son made it safe and sound. Now the adventure begins (at least for him). Hopefully he is able to have at least regular computer access so he can stay in touch. It's definitely an adjustment, having them so far away. Don't begin to know how previous generations made it, without all of the modern convienences we have.
