Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

Kmorgan, my hubby and I could not make it to the MA graduation, but her uncle who lives in New Mexico was able to go. I think we did the right thing in going to the PIR in Great Lakes. Both my brother in law, and Kelcie said that the "A" school graduation is VERY low key, especially compared to PIR.

I live five hours from San Antonio. I am a teacher, so I am off for the summer. If anyone would let me know ahead of time, I would go to any of the graduations and take pictures!! You just have to get me on base.

Tina, I don't know from personal experience; but from some things I read on here at other times. You could search for Cross Training or Cross Rating. Anyway, it would all depend on the needs of the Navy whether your sailor would be allowed to do it. She would have to be wanting to go to a higher rating and that rating would have to be understaffed. She'd also have to have the ASVAB scores for the other rate and whatever other requirements they have. This is all from memory, which is sometimes faulty.

Tina, there are a ton of "specialties" that MA's can get into that require additional training, or "C" schools. Is this what you mean? Or do you mean cross trained in a totally different "rate" (that's navyspeak for job)?
Comment by janieflorida on July 12, 2010 at 7:35am
I don't know what cross training is either!!
Comment by Brenda Sue on July 11, 2010 at 11:11pm
Tina, what do you mean - cross trained? Mine has had LOTS of additional training after getting his MA badge.

Kimmydee, it's been 3 years ago now, but when my daughter graduated from basic (also in a 900 division) they all had the weekend to spend with family before leaving for "A" school. Unfortunately, my daughter had gotten an infection that sent her STRAIGHT from PIR over to the VA hospital next door, where she spent the next 4 days. She didn't get to have any fun that weekend, but I was able to extend my stay, and be with her until she got discharged from the hospital. Then she had to wait a couple of weeks before going to San Antonio, but her PIR class was delay in starting MA school, so she was with her same group from basic.

Kimmydee59~ my son was not a grad & go an he was in the performing division as well. He was able to spend all weekend with him, but your daughter will know for sure. So ask her as she will have the information.
