Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

Hi Zach's Mom,
He will most likely be able to come home for a visit after "A" school. I recommend having his cell phone packed and ready for shipping as soon as he gets to Lackland. It is SO nice being able to be back in regular contact with them after basic. Did you know that you can do a "military" hold on his phone if he gets deployed over seas? That way, you don't have to keep paying for a phone that is to expensive to use. You can also suspend their auto insurance if he goes overseas, although, if this causes you to lose the "multiple vehicle" discount, sometimes it is cheaper just to keep it insured, that way when they come home on leave, they are insured also.

Jackie will they be able to come home before they get stationed or will they go straight to where they will be stationed at? Many many thanks to You and N4M for many people I have met and will be meeting in the future...for all the help, compassion and most of all patience that we have little of in the beginning.

Jackie it that at the Lackland Facility? Do they have a graduation for them for A school and do they leave time? or do they head straight to where they will be stationed at? Sorry for having so many questions.....

Thanks Brenda & Jackie for that information. I know he might not get to be on the ship but they (recruiters) told him that he would be on the ship. I didn't have the heart to tell him that sometimes the recruiters stretch the truth to get you to sign up. I just want the best for him & we will have to see where it goes from here. Can you talk with them more once they go to A school??? Can he have his cell phone?? the reason I asked is that he will be at another military facility and I was sure if they could have the phone since the can't have it on the Great Lakes Naval Base.

Zach's mom - are you (and Zach) aware that not all MA's go on ships. In fact, I bet a small percentage of them do! My son has been a MA for over two years and has been through two deployments - neither on a ship!!

I am new to this group, as my son will be attending the Lackland AFB. He is still in BC and will graduate (PIR) on 18 June 10. He is going for the training to be a MA on the ship.
