Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

Shannon, when is your son's PIR? My son graduates 1/4/13 (Ship 02 Div 908) & will be going to MA also.

k9kell - That's good to hear.  My son doesn't really know much about it either. He wanted to go to Japan but those were two year orders and he had to choose one year orders and extend 6 months because he wants to leave after his four years and go to college.  He'll be glad to hear it's a good place to be.

MountainMama- I will let you know if my son goes to Greece so we can share info. One thing my son told me yesterday was that sailors he doesn't even know were coming up to him saying they heard he got Greece and telling him he's lucky, that it's awesome. He said he didn't realize it was such a desirable place to be stationed, so that was good to hear!

Using Skype internet calls can be way cheaper for your Sailor and you than international calling plans. Your Sailor can call anywhere in the US and Canada for $2.99 a month.  They can make unlimited calls to any landline or cell phone for that.  They also get a US number that you can call.

Hi! My son's been in the sand almost 3 years now. Check out the Bahrain Moms page & join us! If we don't know the answer to your questions, one of us will hunt it down!! Phone cards are a plus. My sailor has an iPhone. The other sailors will advise your sailor. Chris has lived off base in a lovely flat since he became MA3. Your sailor will have a DVD with info prior to arriving, a mentor upon arrival & a "get to know Bahrain tour". There is no formal Mess on base, but rather a food court or "souk" within the NEX. Hope to see you on the Bahrain page!

He's been in the Navy two years (as of this coming Friday) and he's currently stationed in SC. He leaves for Greece in May. If you son ends up in Greece, he will be there before mine. Lets stay in touch.

Mountainmama- my son just got orders to Greece, too. He graduates on January 11th. When does yours graduate? The thing is, my son also interviewed for an MWD handler position (military working dog). If he gets that job then his orders to Greece are void. I've heard it's a good place for them to go, I don't have specific reasons to tell you (wish I did). Just that my son said he heard being stationed in Greece is pretty cool.

My Daughter is in A School and graduates in January.  She just found out she will be stationed in Bahrain too.
