Hi all, I am sitting tight here since my stepson is currently at Lackland for A-school. But, I having been reading the posts here and just want to give everyone a hug. Yes, we are in this together and very few understand this military mom thing like we do. So thankful for the connections we have. No only are we dealing with being a military mom, but also dealing with growing older ourselves and seeing our children go off in the world to do great things, leaving many of us with an empty nest. I also have a son serving in another branch, stationed on the west coast, TX & CA are so far away from VA. I haven't had to deal with any overseas destinatons yet, but my time will come & we will all get by with a little help from our friends. GOD BLESS AMERICA! p.s. I am blessed with my children, seems like I have talked to them more since they left home than I did their last year of high school : )
Sad to say when our sons take a wife we somehow become the shadow. Im fortunate enough to have unmarried boys at this time. Keep in mind sometimes our children think they are bothering us to come see them. Make your point known and talk to your son. When our sons have to keep the wives happy it breaks our heart but as long as he is not suffering just role with the punches. He loves you and things will work out. Try not to go against the grain and realize when they take a wife we as moms have to release our sons to her....Hang on there and bug the daughter in law that's what I would do!!!
Trloguem I can even imagine my son going overseas. I am lucky in the sense that my son will be stationed in CA after A School and believe me that is hard enough for me since we live in CT. After his leave I don't know when I will see him again but I keep telling myself that this is what he wants to do and he is very happy with his choice. I'm an older mom also and he is the youngest. My daughter lives nearby so that helps also. I cry at the drop of a hat where my son is concerned also and my son, husband and daughter laugh and say there goes mom again. They are used to it and just accept it. I think Adele-MA Mom's advice is really good. My heart goes out to you and hope things get better for you soon.
Momship, I've been told that it is easier to set up the Skype account on a computer/laptop and then sign in on an iphone than to try to set up an account on the iphone first. I don't have an iphone so I don't know first hand and my Sailor had a Skype account before his iphone, so I really can't ask him about that.
Emily, your Sailor may want to check out unlimited calls to US and Canada with Skype. It is only $2.99 a month. That's what my Sailor did in Greece and Japan and continues to use now that he is stateside.
My son is going to an airforce based after A school also. He will be in California and I have been wondering about the housing issue also. I never knew that the Navy had sailors on airforce bases.
Emily, yes, Skype will become your friend.
Just learned today that my daughter will be going to Greece. That was her first choice and she is so excited. I am excited for her because she is excited, but knowing she will be so far away, wow... at least it will be beautiful.... Guess I need to master Skype...!
