I have a lot to catch up on, so I haven't posted on the boot camp group yet. But I thought I'd tell you here-- our Sailor finally got his phone and belongings! We facetimed him this evening. He is now in THU and awaiting orders. He knows he could be there for quite a while. He's just glad to be able to communicate with people again. His medical hold was cleared and he never did find out what the issue was. He said it was probably late paperwork from the civilian world. It was so great to finally see him!
C'smom - hopefully it's not to much longer and it will get better. Once he's in Texas you can talk everyday. It makes life so much easier and you will feel so much better!!!
kim, thanks for the info. I still haven't gotten a phone call. I've seen on Facebook that they were making phone calls yesterday, but we didn't get one. And one mom on Facebook got a call yesterday from her son and another 10 minute call today! But I'm okay. I'm not really worried. I know he graduated and he's okay. I would just like to talk to him and find out what's ahead.
C'smom - Yes THU is temporary holding unit. My son stayed in ship compartment for a couple days after PIR. They had a little more freedom while there. Then by the Monday after PIR they converted it to a holding unit and got their belongings back and had way more phone and base liberty. Does your son have a ship out date yet? I'm behind on posts by several days lol
I've also heard the term "holding." What is that?
So, based on your experience, where is my Sailor right now? Is he back in the ship he was in waiting to be moved? Is that what they call a compartment? Then do they go from there to THU and just wait? And then, once in THU, they get their phones, correct?
That's so good to know that Navy is different and they respect the MAs.
Vintagemom, to answer your question from the bootcamp group, he is Division 011, USS Arleigh Burke. In the pictures, you can see the flag that says the ship name. My SR is second row over, third row back. He's is a little blurry in all the pics.
Vintage- ugh, a couple more days? What the heck!!!
C'smom - I'm with Vintage, from all I've read and heard MA's are well respected in the Navy which isn't the case in other branches. Also, praying you get your call today and for your mother!
Good morning,
Csmom - if it makes you feel any better I heard that it’s the Marines and Army MPs that people don’t like. I guess it’s not necessarily the case in the Navy. I’ll send you a video ;)
I just got off the phone with my son and he said hopefully within the next couple days they’ll get out of there. I guess some chief said we’re not running a Navy hotel here we need to get these guys out!
ME: Ok well then get them out!
