Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

Hello, Tricia! My son was grateful for getting a small bottle of Dan dish soap and baby shampoo for his OC spray day. You can mail that to her - or have a small travel size for her to take. I have been OC sprayed for work before - and these two are helpful when hopping in the shower after the "fun" is over. Also, she can have her phone - so if you meet her at the airport, she can put it in her bag - or you can mail that as well (along with a laptop).

My son has been in MA for about four weeks and is finally able to wear civilian clothes - (she will have to get to phase two do wear them) - I mailed him some new stuff through Amazon since all of his old - he had "outgrown" :) Good luck to your daughter and congrats!

Hello! My son graduates MA Aug. 9 at LAFB. Then he is off to Oceana, VA - where happily he is 37 minutes from his best friend who is at Newport News also serving in the Navy!

YokeNavymom, I'm wondering if your son is on the same base as mine? My son is MA.

YokeNavyMom, my son does work at an SWF with Marines. He does not do gate, perimeter, or patrol duties outside of this area. He guards this area only and is on a RTT team with the Marines. They protect and are trained to retrieve our Nuke weapons if stolen. Your sailor can qualify to guard nukes my he team is different. Last my son told me there are only 3 Sailors on it, my son being one of them.

YokeNavyMom, he will have whatever duties are needed--gate duty, perimeter patrol, patrol, guard duty,  and/or other duties as needed.

Mom of NavyGal, Lackland is the only place for MA "A" School now and has been since the fall of 2008. Many of the "C" Schools for MA's are also at Lackland.

The Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) codes for MA's can be found at http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/nec/NECOSVolII/Docu... on pages 71 to 73. You will note that there are very few NEC codes available for those with a rate E-1 to E-3, which is where the new Sailors fall. Dog Handler and NWSS (also known as PRP) are two areas that are open to E-1's. It is rare that one would be accepted into the Dog Handler program straight out of "A" School, but it has happened at times. There have also been a few who qualified for both Dog Handler and PRP.

Most MA's have various training opportunities at their assigned commands after "A" School, but will not go on to a "C" School.

Sailors with orders within the Coastal Riverine Force will complete a 4 week Riverine Combat Skills (RCS) course in Virginia before heading to their first duty station.

Sailors with orders to a combat zone will have 4 weeks of Expeditionary Combat School (ECS) in Gulfport, Mississippi before heading to their first duty station.

Join San Antonio MA's; the discussion, Break down week by week, will let you know what happens at NTTC Lackland (San Antonio).
