Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

Nancystj, most of the time only a handful of loved ones attend "A" School graduation ("C" School graduations, too). See the info in Break down week by week and Graduation Info for Lackland AFB - Navy MA graduation within San Antonio MA's.

Moms what are your thoughts or experiences with A. School graduation? Do most people go? It's a fairly expensive trip and he's coming home the next day but I'd go if that's what most people do. I am so proud of him and don't want to miss it but its hard to spend so much money again so soon after PIR and the holidays. Just wondering what others think. Thanks moms

Orders are based on the needs of the Navy. It would be very unusual to get orders for a tour of only a month, but I suppose if a Sailor had a TAD it would be possible, but in that case the Sailor would have orders to a duty station and then have the TAD and then return to the assigned duty station. That could happen with a protection detail and then the orders could be for a few days to a few weeks. Most orders are going to be for 1 year or longer, up to 3 years, and the first duty station is usually for at least a year. Accompanied orders are generally longer than unaccompanied orders; 36 months vs 24 months in most cases. IA orders may be 6 months or less at times.

http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/milpersman/1000/130... will give you an idea of how tour lengths work.

Thanks! Yes he is still in A school. He's been hearing different things about going overseas anywhere from 1 months to 3 years. Just wondering if that were true. He could be in states but was curious why some overseas places were shorter than others. Guess I'll know soon enough :)

Just wondering, is there a set time that they get sent overseas or does it vary by location? Anxiously waiting to find out where he's going so I don't know where it will be. Just wondering. Thanks!

Oh my gosh, my  sailor called today.  He failed an inspection today because he forgot to clean the microwave in his room and the fan blades.  He got really chewed out.  Is this really a huge deal?

Comment by Holly MA Mom on September 29, 2014 at 9:28pm

Hi NovaMom, - they only have to be sprayed at MA school once, as long as they pass. I heard that they have to have a wipedown (they just wipe their face with a rag of OC stuff) but that's not in A school.  Mine graduates tomorrow morning :-)

Comment by NovaMom on September 29, 2014 at 7:32pm

Does anyone know how often they have to OC sprayed?
