Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

Hi My name is Mika and my son just graduated MAA last fri and will be headed to GA soon.  A little about myself, I am a former Navy wife (my husband served 85-91). I am a mother of 3 and Nonna of 1 LOL. My 2 sons are both Navy, the oldest is a Nuke (followed in his dad's footsteps) and my youngest is MAA.  I am looking forward to being part of this group

He has made some great friends while there. Their shifts are 12 hours but once he adjusted to that, he likes it. Since it's an island, they spend a lot of time at the beach, riding jet skis, horseback riding and of course at the mall. We are able to communicate by text and also FaceTime on the iPad but it's been 15 months since he has been home. Hoping he gets to take leave this summer.since you are a Navy wife and mom already, you probably have a better grasp on all of this than most. Hope you get to make it to SA.

This group actually gets very active at times. It runs in spurts. As with all things, sometimes life gets in the way and we don't post often. Congrats to your son and to you. A school is much easier for you to deal with because you will have more frequent contact. Where do you live? If it's possible for you to make it to his badge ceremony at the end of A school, make sure that you do. We are from the Ft Worth area so we were able to attend. Our son has been in for almost 2 years and is stationed in Bahrain now

Any information would be wonderful! He will arrive there in Diego sometime in the next 15 days. (travel times banned from open forums) I have just become anxious about the isolation and communication. Bahrain was a dream for both.

My son is currently stationed in Diego Garcia. He has been there since early Feb. Communication is not what I would like but he contacts us through FB when he can (usually around 3AM my time!!!) Every time I hear the "ding" on my phone, I jump straight up! I know it's him and I don't ever want to miss a chance to talk to him. :-)

Is there anything he should have shipped to Diego Streetmom? It will be hard not speaking to him on the phone. We could talk all the time in Bahrain. I was on that very Island in 1983, just for a day when I lived in Southeast Asia. Thank you for the info. I hope it will go smoothly for him.

Yes, "A" School graduation is on Friday unless there is some reason that it needs to be moved to a different day--a holiday, a change in command, or some other event that causes those in charge to change the date and/or time, which is usually in the morning. My Sailor's "A" School graduation was at 1:00 on a Thursday afternoon due to a change in command on Friday.

Nancy Cooper's Mom, no, there is currently not a group for Diego Garcia. You can always start one and let others know because there are several with loved ones there.

My son is currently stationed at Diego Garcia. Very small but beautiful island. He loves it there but not alot for them to do in their spare time. No phone service but we communicate daily thru Facebook messenger
