I'll be back the first week in Sept. so we have to start planning a lunch soon. Linda, I live in Eldersburg (just have a Marriottsville address, long story, lol) so we could carpool.
deneen, yes the Stennis was deployed last year and they are going back at the end of the month. My son wasn't on the ship the last deployment, so this is his first experience with it. He just joined the ship in March, reporting the after they came back from their last deployment. They are going back AGAIN very soon and believe me, the crew is NOT happy! My son has no idea what to expect since he has only been underway a couple of times, for a month at a time, so this will be all new to him. They will be gone for 8 1/2 months this time. I will try to help with the your sailor's group too, if I can. I guess they really needed a boost in morale this time, as this is Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta speaking to his ship today. He met with the sailors and some family members.
Joanne, Woohoo! Wow, I didn't realize it had been so long. I'm so happy for you.
deneen, I really wish I could help, but my son's carrier is also being deployed and I've offered to help get packages for his division, which is about 50 sailors. Yikes! Good luck to you and I hope you are able to get all that you need.
I will help with the bags as well.
Ugh, I hate typos, "Bremerton", lol
deneen, what a beautiful picture! Good luck to your daughter and her husband.
Linda, Oh, I bet his brother was so happy. That's so cool!
Lori, have a great time and enjoy the beach.
I'm now without my sailor, once again. :( He went back to Beremton this morning. I was very good at the airport and only cried when I hugged. It's still sinking in that I won't be able to see him for almost 9 months now. Leon Panetta (The Sec. of Def.) is having an "all hands" on his ship on Wed. so I can't wait to hear (what he is allowed to tell me, of course) about that meeting.
Linda- that's great Joey got to come home. Short but definitely sweet!
At the beach now. Still recovering and in pain but it's nice to be here.
deneen-I LOVE the photo! What a beautiful dress and so is your daughter! Glad to "see" you stop in!
Lori - I hope you are feeling better. Enjoy the beach.
Joey came home for his 4 day weekend. I knew he was coming but it was a surprise for his brother's birthday today. He will go back to NY tomorrow so he can study on Monday for a test next week. It's about a 7 hr drive - a bit long but definately doable. He's planning on coming home during his next 4 day weekend in September.
Joanne, I would imagine that Kevin is finding that task pretty hard. I'm sorry.
Lori, I hope you are able to take it easy, at least a little bit.
My time with Adam is quickly flying by and I'm already starting to get weepy. We are going to take the tram up the mountain tomorrow, so I know that Adam is excited about that. He said that in the 6 years years that we lived out here, he never got to do that. I'm not sure how that happened since I have actually been up there 3 times. Weird! But I think I went up there when we had out of town company, during the day, and he probably would have been in school.
His friends from high school at giving him a pre-deployment party on Friday night. I'm hoping that he will behave himself and not drink too much......sigh! I guess Saturday's plans will depend on his mood after the party. He leaves to go back to Bremerton on Sunday, so I know that I will be a big ole mess that day. I think my friend Barb, (friend that I am staying with) another friend Steph, and I may go to Old Town Albuquerque for a day of distraction for me.
