Donna, thanks for organizing this. My first choice would be the 27th, but may be able to rearrange things so I could come on the 20th. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and working on a project together. Quick question -- does Harrington have an office in Southboro? I live in that area and don't recognize it. Thanks again.
Just wanted to let everyone know that we will be having another regional packing party at Harrington Hospital in Southboro, MA. I'm taking a poll as to which date would be most convenient for you. We are looking at April 20 or 27.
I have to let Joan (at the hospital) know next Friday, so if you would please leave a comment as to which date is most convenient for you that would be great.
Our boxes will be going to the staff who work at 2 Combat Support Hospitals in the sandbox. I'm the Mom of the Month for this group & l'll let you know more info once we get the date set.
Thanks for considering this and helping this MoM have a successful adoption!
And, especially for the new Moms, I'm sure we can work out carpooling so everyone won't have to drive alone.
But, please, don't forget to let me know which date is best. Thanks everyone!!
Are there any Mass Navy moms with children in boot camp right now? my son left 3/26
Thanks, everyone, for the great advice. It really helps to get the low-down from folks who really know! Also helps when I'm prodding my son, to be able to say that the advice came from the Mass. Navy Moms!!
Oh, Joniana, you can check out any words or acronyms using the tool to the right of this column -- Navy Speak. It is a great tool. And of course if you can't figure out the spelling from what he says you can always ask here. Your son will be so impressed when you start using words or acronyms as part of your vocabulary!! And, he can just wonder at how amazing you are that you know these things! LOL
Hi Joniana! The one (we thought) most important thing was giving me power of attorney for my son. He also put me on his savings & checking accounts & told me which bank. But definitely the POA. As my son's recruiter told him: "Do you want your CO making healthcare decisions for you if heaven forbid you got hurt and couldn't make the decisions yourself?" That did it for my son!
The second bit of advice & I only just learned this and we are into his 2nd enlistment and he's been deployed twice -- when/if you learn your son is going to be deployed overseas, get a passport right away. Same reason as above. You don't want to have to try seeking help from your Senator or Congressman if you find you need one immediately. Believe me, next time (& I hope there isn't a 3rd) the first thing I'm going to do is get my passport. The only reason I haven't done it now is because I know they are only valid for so long. Guess I should find out how long, right? :)
Thank you all for your welcome and support. I feel like we've been dropped into a foreign country where I don't know the language, so it is very comforting to hear that others have survived! Two quick "survey" questions for any one who has an opinion: (1) What's the one most important thing we/my son should do BEFORE he leaves for bootcamp? And (2) What one thing do you wish you'd known about PIR before you went? Many thanks and good thoughts to those of you whose loved ones are already serving.
