Hi!  I have had 2 messages from the Lt. Cmdr. in charge of Navy Week (9/29 - 10/2) at the Big E in Springfield.  She and her CO want to know if MA Navy Moms would like a table at the fair to advertise our group.  I'm looking for anyone who might be willing to commit to helping in some way.

You can check out the comment I left on the MA Navy Moms page for a bit more info.

If you'd like to be a part of this, please let me know ASAP since I have to get back to her in the next few days. You can leave an answer on the MA Navy Moms page or send me a PM.

Thanks,

Donna

JudyG, to really answer your question ... there is a group called "Molly's Adopt A Sailor". This group adopts a different unit each month and tries to do something special for the sailors, marines, soldiers that are in the unit. This month for the holidays Molly's has adopted the USS Cape St. George. But back to packing parties. Different states do it different ways. Here in MA we are just getting involved. The 11/6 party was the first time we did it. But we gather in one place with whatever items we have bought personally or asked family and friends to get involved by buying some of the items of the monthly "wish list", or if you know someone with a business and they give you items -- so you come with your items (aka treasures) and we pack individual care packages. We pack as many as we have items for and then wait for the mailing dates to com. Our boxes are shipped at th same time as others from all over the country so that the arrival times are close together. Then our contact person arranges a time with the adopted unit to gather them together and pass out the boxes. We did 30 boxes, but since 47 states have packing parties, there are always enough to go around. It is also a fun way to get to know some local Navy Moms. MA Navy Moms are great. (Like all Navy Moms). We support & watch out for each other. It provides us all with wonderful support system. Does this help??

Welcome to MA Navy Moms! We just had a packing party on 11/6. But, we may have to have another soon. I had asked the 2 elementary schools in town if they would write notes or draw pics for the sailors on the USS Cape St. George for the holidays. One principal said of course & that asked what else they could do. Since then they have collected a number of things. I just don't know how much. I'm try to reach him now hoping to maybe stop by and see what I've gotten us into. As soon as I do that I'll let you know if, when, where we will have another packing party for the holidays. So that hopefully explains some of the "chatting" going on in that group.
