Hi magnetic1! I found 2 sites with suggestions on what to send in your care packages. They are:
www.militarymoms.net and the other one is http://www.navymoms.org/carepackage.htm
I hope that these will give you some great ideas. My church supports a number of people who are in either Iraq of Afghanistan (sp) and we've used these 2 sites to get some good suggestions. And the guys really appreciate the unique items. I'm looking forward to meeting you "magnetic1 (Dan's Mom).

Just wondering if the Sat. luncheon is still a go? Right now I am unemployed so anytime is good for me. I am willing to go out and look for a place that would hold however many you would estimate might come out. Thanks for sharing the idea of meeting each other. I think that it is a super idea!

Hi Lesli! I don't travel 128 daily anymore, but I vaguely remember where Wellesley is on the mental map that I have in my head! I used to travel from Foxboro to Lowell General Hospital. I was trying to get a job there, but it didn't work out. I imagine that it is lovely. I've worked in a number of places temp and/or part-time to update my skills so that I could return to nursing which is my first love. If you need a ride & no one is coming down from northern MA let me know and I would be glad to pick you up for the lunch. I'm excited about the prospect of meeting other Navy moms. Take care. Donna

Hi Central Mass Mom! There are a few nice restaurants in Patriot Place - which is located right beside Gillette Stadium. There are all sorts of shops if you want to go shopping. There is also the Patriots' Hall of Fame museum. And, of course, there is the Patriots' Pro Shop where you can pick up a new hat for your Sailors. I live in Mansfield, the neighboring town of Foxboro. If you'd like I can go over and see what they have available. Any idea on how many we might expect? If we had enough perhaps we could get a private room. Let me know, I am more than happy to help. I can also take a ride down 495 & then get off to see what restaurants are available. Things are always changing. There is also Luciano's. It is a very nice restaurant, and also a bit on the expensive side. Let me know if I can help and what sort of help you may need to get a meeting off the ground.
Take care

Hi Lesli (Smith)! Where do you live? Perhaps I can pick you up for lunch? Is a group event being planned, do you know? It was so very frustrating being out of things for such a long time. I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do!

Hi Everyone! I haven't been able to say anything for nearly 2 months. Someone got onto my home page and changed things, including my 'name' and password. It caused a lot of work for Elle, but she got me back. I have been, at least, able to read your comments. I would love to meet for lunch or dinner with you all, too. I live in Mansfield (next to Foxboro - home of our New England Patriots). Does anyone live near me so we can carpool? I don't mind driving if I have a good navigator/directions. Please keep me in the loop 'Central Mass Mom'.

Thanks Jeanne & Terri for your input on my difficult patient. For the time-being my DON has removed me permenantly from that patient's assignment list. Great for me, but no real help for the others. But they won't fight this issue for themselves. They'd rather stand behind me than with me. Of course, the other issue is that I was brave enough to come forward & tell what had happened to me a few yrs. back. I think that is why the DON did what she did for me. But thanks so much for the support!! You are both great...

That is the million dollar question I guess. Yesterday my son pointed out something really discouraging - only 2 months left until fall and winter will be right behind that. Now that was something he could have left out of his phone call!

Hi Jeanne! It is nice to meet you. I'm guessing that since it is Groton, he is on a sub? I admire all the men who can get on a sub. I have such clostrophobia (sp) I'd be leaving fingernail marks on the hatches! I'd love to hear more about him when you have the time. Matthew joined the Inshore Boat Unit - "Detect, Deter, Defend". It matches his other life as an officer in NYPD. Large groups of NYPD & FDNY joined after 9/11 he says it is "pay back for attacking their city". He also is part of the City's own anti-terrorism force. They practice every week at least 1 day and often more. He can't tell what they do, of course, but he says it is "rewarding..." I just pray,it is all we can do. I feel like he is safer when he is with the Navy. Weird, huh? He does too. Says the Navy lets them shoot if they are in danger, the City makes them fill out paperwork, see a psych., & go on desk duty for however long they think necessary. I found an ad in Nursing2009 for working in VA Hospitals right after I got your note. So I that is what I'm going to do -- 'go for it.' Take care.

I'm new to N4M and have been searching my way through the site. Finally found this group from MA. Can you tell me if anything is happening in the area for us as moms? My son Matthew is stationed out of the Sub Base in Groton, CT. He's with the Inshore Boat Unit and got back from the Persian Gulf not too long ago. I'm an RN and work with rehab patients. I'm considering a change maybe to the VA Hospitals in Boston - any advice??
