This may be jumping the gun but my daughter  wanted me to ask if she can personalize her room at all during A school such as bedding. She also would like to know if she can have a laptop and if there is internet available. Thanks.

I am new to the group and thought I would give a little background. My daughter is leaving in May for BC and has a contract for MC. Thank you for the links to Ft Meade and the curriculum. It has her more convinced than ever that this is what she is supposed to do, When she went to Meps they were really pushing her towards Nuke (she qualified based on her ASVAB score), but she insisted that the guy she was talking to make sure that there was no way she could get into MC before she signed. He asked her to give a reason and she said "Do you want someone doing a job just because that what was available or do you want someone doing the best job possible at what they enjoy?" Couple of calls and she got her contract. I was really proud of her for standing up for what she wanted, Makes me feel like she can make it in the Navy.

Ben is doing fine. He found out that his classes will be starting on February 23. He still has a month of daily duty, but he says everything is good. We miss him very much. The house is quiet without him. At least when he was at boot camp he was writing a letter weekly. I miss getting mail from him. He hasn't been calling home much either. He now is dating a girl that is also in the Navy. I guess she takes priority over Mom & Dad. Kind of a little hard not knowing anything about her, so used to knowing the girl he dates.

Dawn L.(Ben's Mom PIR 9/2/2010)Ben has been at Fort Meade since September and has been in MC classes since 9/20/10. He was home for Thanksgiving & Christmas. Last week he had a photo assignment and forgot lighting & focusing on his pictures and he is now being academically recycled. He will now have to wait to start the photography classes again in February. This also means that he won't graduate in April, but in May. I felt bad for him, but I know that he has already learned from his mistakes. He'll just get more experience behind the lens by repeating the class.
