I am very proud as well that my son is there. It is taken very seriously, they are being taught by the very best and expect nothing but the best from them. These sailors are going to be responsible for reporting the Navy's History

My son spelled a name wrong on a paper, got an F, lucky for him that his other papers were A's and brought his grade up.

the FB groups that I am involved with are, "Navy for Moms", and "Navy Moms on Facebook"

There is a FB  page for DINFOS with a lot of pics of the school and sailors that you can see.

The other thing that I can tell you is that they are each assigned very expensive equipment that they are responsible for.  They had a $7,000 camera for the first photography class and upgraded to a different setup for advanced photography.  Now they are in video and have been given more equipment.  Just the tripod alone is $3,500.00!  These Sailors live with this stuff strapped to them as they are financially responsible if lost!

Traceykj:  Yes, google DINFOS (Defense Information School).  You will see that some high level people have went through DINFOS. I am proud to think that our son is receiving this kind of education.    I think the list of attendees that I looked at was on wikipedia.  She will walk to DINFOS. I think he said it is about a half mile from where he lives.   It's a really large building. We drove past it when we visited.   The Sailors refer to it as "the big house".

Gracie21...THANK YOU for your awesome explanation! I so very much appreciate the heads up. We get to be with her on 11/22 for her graduation so ill share this info with her. I need to google DINFOS. does that mean shell physically move to a different place?

Lnrosy, thank you for letting me know about the other group!

Collette, is there a Facebook group for those of us with kids at ft. Meade?

Navymom93...sounds like ours will get to know each other!

It's all very exciting but the separation is hard.

Hi Traceykj,  My child is currently in MC training at Meade and is going through their program as the last class with the current educational requirements.  As I understand it, all branches of service are currently represented in these classes.  After the first 3 months, the other branches are done but the Navy continues more training for an additional 3 months at DINFOS.  I will tell you the classes, studies, and projects are very demanding.  It appears to me by following along that approx 20% of the Sailors fail and are sent on for another position with the Navy.  The new curriculum is being designed for only Navy trainees so there is no one that can tell you exactly what your daughter will encounter. I have visited Ft Meade once and was happy to see where my son lives, eats, goes to school, the community that he lives in, etc.  About half way through the school, he found that he really needed a car.  The Navy is taking good care of them, believe me. She must learn to work on her projects early, do not think that last minute completions will make the grade.  They strive for 100% accuracy since they do media releases to the public and other government entities.  They are penalized heavily for the slightest of errors.  She must go into this 100% focused for accuracy, get on her work early and take nothing for granted. There are two awards that are available to the Sailors taking these classes.  One award contemplates an average of 90% or better throughout the classes and the other again is based on merit. Failure of any test will remove the student from the eligible list of awardees. This past week they had another graded assignment.  There are only 18 remaining in the class now and 9 of them failed the test.  They are well over half way through this program and still that many are failing.   Adding class leader or section leader duties to regular classwork really makes for a long and hard schedule. She will receive an awesome education, no doubt! They constantly reminding them of the education and cost. It will be an awesome job once they get done and to their first duty.   I believe most of this will convert to college credits.  That's about all I have learned.  Good luck to her.

Hi Traceykj, I'm afraid I can't really offer anything to you yet.  I'm signed up kind of early, as my son hasn't even left for boot camp yet, but he will be headed to Fort Meade also for his MC training.

Hello, I have our daughter with her PIR 11/22. Then she'll be headed to A school in Maryland for mass communications...di I have the right group here? Is there anything you can share with me that I can share with her?
Comment by Erin on December 5, 2012 at 10:06am

Thank you, Chelsea! PIR is 1/18 so he will be there shortly after that. I'm planning on waiting til after A School to join him so I can stay with my doctor and support network here (I'm 19 weeks pregnant)!
