Hey, I am currently at Fort Meade with my husband. And I can answer this for you. He will not get his orders till the last month of A School. Also, its been a rumor (I'm not sure the truth behind it) that is you are married you end up in Virginia.

When are you guys heading this way?

Hi Everyone! My husband is currently at Great Lakes for bootcamp, and then heading to Fort Meade for A School to be an MC. Wondering at what point he will find out where he is stationed after A School? I imagine it's towards the end but wondering if anyone can answer from experience. Thanks so much!

Thank you Bonnie and others, lots of helpful things said here.
She actually talked to the recruiter and there's two spots open for MC to leave in Feburary. She's defidently going to wait to get that rate so she can get all she can out of the Navy. Thanks again everyone!

Hello Ladies,

My daughter is very interested in the MC rate.  She is eligable for it with her ASVAB score, but knows its very hard to get into. Do you have any tips on how to get the rate? Is it worth is to do Undes. or wait for the Rate that really interests her? Also we've heard you need to make a portfolio, and get 'accepted' by a superior of that rate Any feedback would be grately appreciated.

Thanks so much

@Jeannade, I live an hour away so it's not as close as I want but I'm so grateful! I must say, DINFOS has definitely taken a toll on him... 'A School' is really intense training, but with the intensity and hard work all the time, they are definitely rewarded with free time (especially because they are SURROUNDED by tourist-esque areas like D.C. and the Baltimore Harbor) "A School" has a lot of perks especially compared to Boot Camp... just sent him his blanket and ALL 60 of his DVDS along... so get those care packages started :)

Ladies, thank you so much for the confirmation.  I had heard something like that but I thought it was best to check with someone who's "been there/done that".  I already have the tablets and will start coaching my mom on how to use it and skype. Oh and @ blithes0me...  please don't take this the wrong way but I'm sooo jealous..Your sailor gets to come home sometimes for dinner, etc during training... SOOOO nice... Would it be wrong to move up there for 6 months ;-)... I didn't think I could miss that son of mine sooooo much and yet be sooooo happy and proud at the same time.. Again thanks for the info...

Comment by blithes0me on June 26, 2012 at 12:37pm

@Jeannade, My sailor graduated bootcamp 4/13... He is now in A School in Ft. Meade, MD (I live right down the street... It's a really nice area!)
Once your sailor arrives at the airport in Chicago, and steps off that bus and into the airport, he is officialy FREE from Boot! Which means you are able to go meet him and wait with him until his flights arrives, and in doing so, you can drop off any personal belongings to him (like the tablets)

Hi jeannade....I an't remember exactly when my SR was able to have electronics...I believe it was almost immediately. He had access to the internet right away. He had his phone right away.

Comment by jeannade on June 11, 2012 at 11:07am

Good morning everybody.. My SR will PIR on 07/06 and then off to A school the next day.  Does anybody know if they can have electronic devices when they first arrive at MC A School?

I want to pick up  android tablets for him and my mother so they can video chat while he can.  My mother has health issues that will cause us to lose her in the next few years and they are SOOO close I thought it would be a good Birthday present for both of them.

So ladies any idea of when he could have something like that once he leaves RTC?  Any help would be wonderful, thanks.
