Navygirlsmom, I am so sorry to hear about your loss.  I know they always said to call the Red Cross in an emergency and they would handle it from there.  They may wait and tell her after she is done with BC.  They do what they feel is best for not only the individual but the whole squad.  I know my son always says if he is underway to only call the Red Cross if it is one of us (parents) or his sister.  Anyone else we can let him know after he is back.  Good luck with everything.  Saying a prayer for your family.

That is very tough, Navygirlsmom. The Red Cross might also be able to advise.

Navygirlsmom, I am so sorry.
When our son went to bootcamp he told us only to tell him only something happened to his grandparents or one of us. Plus like you said, they will not allow her to leave for the funeral. You could always contact her recruitor and ask for their advice.
I see you are from Portland, we live in Ionia.

I am in need of some serious help and guidance ladies...I received word tonight that my daughters boyfriend of 5 years passed away today. He had many health issues, and we knew that his life would not be long, however this is so very sudden and unexpected! My heart is breaking and I am torn...what do I do! I know my daughter needs all of her strength to get through BC. And I know she wants this so bad!! We did talk about this prior to her going in and she said that she only wanted to be notified in the event of a death...but looking at it now, I don't think they would even allow her to come home for the funeral since he is not an immediate family member.... any advice would be so welcome!

Later may work. I have another event the earlier weekend you mentioned and in mid-August I hope to go out to Maine to visit the sailor and his family. The weekend before Labor Day may work...

Lorraine, would later in Aug. work better?

Comment by Lorraine on July 3, 2014 at 3:56pm

Colleen, congrats to your son for adding a couple years. I recently found out that Scott might stay in for 20 - we will see. Hope up north works out, it was a lot of fun last year!

Comment by Lorraine on July 3, 2014 at 3:54pm

Both those dates were bad for me karent.
