I am from Hastings and my husband is from Detroit. He has been in for almost 10 years and is getting ready to go to OCS next month.

There is a Holiday Inn Express and Suites in South Haven, MI on 1741 Phoenix Rd. 877-477-8004. I found this through a Yahoo Search. If you go to a website for South Haven you can find all kinds of accommodations -- try www.southhaven.org/

ok moms, I did it. I cried, actually teared up several times. Thank God for sun glasses. But Steven made me promise not to cry. So the last time it happened I told him I had to leave because I couldn't hold them back anymore. The day was great as we drove to his grandma's to do the goodbye and then his grandpa's for the same. Then it was just us time for the hour ride - a really good feeling. So when it came time for his briefing, he told me I didn't have to leave, I could wait til they were done. Funny - because he acted so strong otherwise. It was like the first day of kindergarden. LOL I had to remind him that I still had to drive an hour and still be able to get for work tomorrow. Kids I tell ya. I made it down the road 5 minutes before I had to pull over to blow my nose. Then I was fine. I am glad he had his cell phone tonight as we just got done texting for the past hour. I have taken in all you ladies have written to me and I know he will be ok. Just the separation anxiety moments. I think I did ok. But tomorrow is another day.

Welcome aboard, Jaz04!!! As all the other ladies have said before, hold on to your seat and be ready for the roller coaster ride of the U.S.Navy. It is so tough waiting for that 'box' and the first letter informing you of his address. Just remember we are all here for you. As I can attest from being on here, everyone is very supportive and care about each other. My son PIR'd October, 07 is a K-9 MA3 stationed in Diego Garcia for a year. He orginially was stationed for 2 1/2 years in Virginia Beach, VA. Yes, PIR is the most wonderful and awesome experience. Make sure you take a box of kleenex with you. You are fortunate that your son is allowing you to go to Lansing to drop him off, because my son refused to let me go there. LOL!! He thought I would be too emotional. Which he was probably right. I have learned how to use Skype with him being overseas 10 hrs ahead of us in Michigan. Yes, no question is a stupid question so feel free to ask. We also have occasional Meet & Greets here in Michigan so keep your eyes peeled on this page to see when and where we will be meeting.

Again, WELCOME and I look forward to helping you through anything or anytime you are in need.

@ Kathy B--That is so great to hear about your daughter!!! My son wanted to go to Bahrain too, but ended up in D.G. instead. Have fun dogsitting!! LOL!

Thanks Ruth. I actually dated a young man that went into the Navy, so went through BC with him (but that was 24 years ago, I am sure a lot has changed). It just seems so different when it is your own. I will be writing like crazy for sure. I am on Boot Camp moms already. Just found the MI group last night. I knew I wasn't the only one from this state. I will definitely keep in touch.
