Thanks for the smiles, Colleen. We smile with you and it will be awesome in June to welcome your Sailor home. As far as a group to be at the airport when he comes home, get in touch with the local recruiting station and they should be able to help you and/or give you some direction. We are near Selfridge Air National Guard base in Harrison Township and they have all branches working there in some manner or another. You could always contact them and see what help they would be.

We had our Sailor home, he got married on 22 December and we had a perfect wedding for them. We are blessed to have Kelsey in our family now and they are in GC, S. C. for Nuke school. It was hard to watch them load their belongings and pull away. We are hoping to visit them in June when our other children are out of school.

Happy New Year to all the Michigan Moms!  After a huge meltdown here in the Grand Rapids area, it's back to snow and wind.  I smile for all of you that got to celebrate Christmas and/or New Year's with your Sailor.  We will celebrate when our Sailor gets home around June - complete with a tree decorated in red, white and blue lights.  He is on the USS Stockdale-a destroyer-headed towards Asia.  Does anyone know if there is a group that goes to the airports and welcomes home our Servicemen/woman?  I would love to go and do that.  I live only 30 min. from the Gerald R. Ford airport in Grand Rapids.  For those who are sad and missing your son/daughter, I understand.  I miss my son so much, I swear my heart just hurts sometimes.  Just the thought of him can make my eyes well up.  The song, "Come Back To Me" reminds me of him. Hang in there and be safe everyone.

Today is a day of change.  My boy is gone, and the snow is gone, too (well, most of it).  He seemed perfectly fine with it, so I guess I did do a good job raising him.  Was great seeing him, but sad seeing him off.

Wow what a huge change here in our little town. Not a bit of snow left.  We are actually having a small thunderstorm at the moment.  Hope the weather stays warm enough not to freeze all the rain we are getting now.  Safe travels to all coming and going.  Yea seayasoon!  oh just got to love that feeling of anticipation to see your Sailor!  Hang in there everyone!

Our Sailor and his new bride left MI. on Tuesday and arrived in GC on Wednesday. They did all they needed to do for housing and unloaded the small U-haul with all their belongings and into their new house last night. They were given a "free" pizza coupon and that was their dinner last night as they sat and looked around their first home. It was hard to hold it together as they packed everything into that U-haul, I can honestly say I didn't want them to go. As Diego has told me, mom, it's just another adjustment we have to make. Well, I am not ready though I have no say as his mom anymore. It is hard not to have him home, then we had Kelsey for a while and now too, she is with him and his room is empty. That is hard, I just stand and stare at his empty room and tears come to my eyes. How hard it is to raise them, then we have to let them go. The time goes by much too fast, it was just yesterday he was born and now he is a married man and serving our country in the U.S. Navy. How proud we are of our son and all those that have made the choice to serve "we the people." *sigh*

oh my gosh Marianne!  I'm soooo excited for you!!! It is just the best to see them when they walk off that plane.  Hugs!

Dunesmom - as you are getting ready to say 'goodbye', I'm getting ready for my 'hug'!  Katie called last night just before she boarded her plane in Japan.  Her flight arrives in DTW just after lunch;)

Starting the last of the laundry and getting things ready for my Sailor to head back to base on Saturday. I'm really trying hard not to cry, but as you all know it's not working.  Have enjoyed our time together.  I have to tell ya all.... We were sitting by the fire one night and my Sailor said to me "it's been nice being home but i'm getting ready to head back" Sure makes me feel good that he feel that he has made the right decision for his life.  You all have a safe and happy New Year!

Hope all had a Merry Christmas and those that have your sailors home, enjoy!!!  We did skype with our sailor on Christmas Eve and then him and his brother skyped for about an hour last night.  All seems to be well in Japan, sure thankful for technology, it makes being far apart way easier.
