Wow...I have not had much time to log on with school starting.

Just had to report PIR was soooo exciting. We were blessed to have some extra time because it was over Labor Day weekend. My son has moved across the street and is in preBUDS. The rollercoaster is about to leave the station...."Please hold on to the bar" :)

I was ok with the I'm here call. My other son opened the box, so that was ok, but I was home all alone when I got the first real letter from him. Then I cried and cried, and all of a sudden there was an ad on tv for NavyForMoms. I went on line right away and was never the same. :)

Blessings on your trip (and recovery). Congrats to your son. Enjoy your visit. PIR is so moving. I'm so glad you can go.

Linda, I also wanted to comment on other Navy personnel. You earlier listed the ranks for the enlisted (pay scale). To add to your information, pay depends on pay grade, years of service plus any adjustments for type or location of service (i.e. overseas, war zone). Here are the rest: W1 to W5 are Warrant Officer Ranks; (Non-Commissioned Officers: NCO's and Petty Officers) O1 to O10 are Commissioned Officer Ranks.
It really gets confusing when other moms are talking about their kids that are in the other militaries (Army, (including National Guard) Marines, Air Force, excluding Warrant Officers for the Air Force) since their Rankings are much different to the Navy's. If someone says that their son or daughter is a Sergeant 1st Class that will equal the Navy's Chief Petty Officer. Or maybe they are a Captain, that would equal the Navy's Lieutenant. Leave it up to the Navy to make things a little confusing! LOL And (like a proud mom) the Navy has better looking uniforms!! Have a great day.

I am unfamiliar with that area, but I am sure that something like that would fit in with others' schedule. Locate and directions might help making a decision for those who don't already have plans for Labor Day. Sounds like it would be a blast and the weather is actually supposed be really nice! (I hope)

Great news, Becky. Can't wait to see the pictures. Can you come on the 26th?. Hope so.

Thanks, Linda. Appreciate the wishes. The Chinese language has a lot of voice nuances to make the different words. Then there are all the different symbols to learn in order to write the words. We are looking forward to getting his written address. It goes through faster if is is in Chinese.
He is looking forward to learning as much as teaching.

Linda, thanks for the list. I can't get it straight.
My son will be teaching English as a Second Language in a middle school there. He will teach oral English, how to speak it. Should be interesting, he doesn't speak Chinese, yet, and he doesn't know if there will be a translator in the room. He is 6" 3" and has already had second looks and fingers pointed his way as he walks around. China does not allow missionaries but they do want the English teachers. He will be there until at least June, if all goes well.
