Ladies,
My son will be going through battle stations at some point in the next week. From what the boys are saying, I think it will be the 31st. There is no room for a redo before PIR, so please lift him up in prayer. I can't wait to see him!

I am sad to say it is just not going to work for me to get to the cities tomorrow. I will have to wait until next time.

Hi Everyone! This is to remind those of you who wish to attend the Meet and Greet, it is this Saturday, August 22 at 1:00 P.M. at the Buffulo Wild Wings Grill and Bar at 76 Northtown Drive NE (Northtown Shopping Center area) in Blaine. I hope to see a large group there. We will (as always) have a great time! Time to share and brag about our Navy families!!

Elizabeth, I'm sorry that it has been such a hassle (I'm sure there is a stronger word) for you in dealing with the hotel. We did enjoy the meeting so much. I will also get a check off to you soon. I hope and pray that you and your family are doing well otherwise. Take care.

Don't forget the Meet and Greet this Saturday (August 22nd) at 1:00 P.M. at the Buffalo Wild Wings Grill and Bar at Northtown (76 Northtown Drive NE in Blaine). Hopefully we will have a great turnout and we can put faces to the names that we have met on line! I will remind you all again on Thursday or Friday about it. Hope to see you then.

Thanks, Linda. I had read that before and love it. Erma was so real and could really touch a person, couldn't she?!

Thank you for that reminder, JJ. It is always good to be reminded of the good, and you are so right. The media does not get it right, or dwell on the good.

The "unknowing" is one of the hardest things about being deployed to a country that is unstable to say the least. Whether our service family member is serving on the sea, over the sea, or under the sea, we all worry. We hear horror stories all the time, but a lot of them are NOT as true as the media wants us to believe. I have asked my son many times if "this was true or that was true" and this is what he said," Don't believe the news, most of the time they get it wrong." "The good news isn't told, it doesn't sell." Which is very true. I haven't heard a "nice story" for a long time and when I do, it might only be on for 15 to 30 seconds!
When my son was in Bahrain, it had been WAY TOO LONG since we had seen him. So, with the little information that we had gotten from him, we grabbed our passports and went half way across the world to see him!! Of course the pit-stop to see the pyramids was just a bonus. Only a few miles across from Bahrain and you have Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. We forget at times that what seems a small distance is really not. Bahrain is a quiet, small country just off Saudi Arabia with wonderful people. It is under constant construction, building housing for not only their people, but our military families as well. It was very enlightening to see how modern it is. Of course I will never get usued to the foriegn airports and the customs of these countries in the middle East. The airports are filled with people that smoke, lots of bare feet, and bathrooms are at few and far between. And a garbage can is even harder to find! Have to do the research before you get there!
So, as our children enter into the military world, they will suddenly turn into well informed adults with all sorts of confidence that will surprise, not only Dads, but Moms as well. What our young men and women start out with can be difficult and trying, but soon they develope into such accomplished people that we can all be so proud of. There's nothing nicer than to say to someone when they see your daughter or son, "That one's mine!" Your heart just wants to burst with joy and pride and that smile that you have on your face does not disappear! It will always be there, every time you think about them.

Carolyn and Linda, I appreciate your comments. I do know about letting go, even though it is hard. All 4 of my kids have left not only the house, but the state. I love it that they are experiencing new things and places, but it does make me sad at times. I love having this sight to unload.
