Hi Debbie, I am a Navy Mom from Springfield Missouri originally from KC MO. We have lived in Springfield for the last 13 years. Our son is a Petty Officer 2nd Clascs and stationed here in the Midwest area. That is nice because we can meet in KC for the Chiefs games or travel to see him a lot more than when he was stationed in California or the 2 years that he was stationed in Japan.
Great to have him so close.

I just joined this site and notice that there is not a lot of activity why? I live outside of St. Louis and was wondering where everybody was from.

There is a new Group that was just started for Springfield, Missouri Moms and for any other mom living in the surrounding areas who might want to join and visit. Maybe we can get together for some talk time.

Veleda, I am a little leary of flying also but it is not really that bad. The only problem that I really had was that it was a 16 hour flight but they had movies to watch and once you were over international waters, the alcohol was free. That made for a better flight. LOL. I really do hope that you take advantage of the chance to go over to Japan for a visit. Of course you will all need a Passport and that is good for 10 years. I am now waiting for his next overseas duty station so that I can see another country.

Velda, he will love Japan. My son was stationed there for 2 years and really did like it. I was lucky enough to go over and spend 17 days there with him back in December 2006. He was also lucky enough to be able to rent a house off base and that was really great. If you look at my page, you should be able to see a few pictures that I posted. Good luck to him.

Alie, I live in Springfield Missouri right across the street from Glendale High School. I have 4 kids that my husband and I took in and received Permanent Legal Guardianship this past May. I have two boys of my own and the youngest in a Petty Officer 2nd Class and is stationed in Nebraska. He just had knee surgery on Tuesday and his Dad is up there helping him out for the first 4 weeks that he is off work. If he still needs to be off work, I will go and stay the last 2 weeks with him. That's what Mom's are for I guess.

Wow, Kelley, I live in Springfield, Missouri and my son has been a sailor for about 7 years now. He is a Petty Officer 2nd Class and is stationed in Nebraska for some Shore Duty. In a couple more years, he can go back to sea.

Virginia, I know the feeling. My son was homesick for his first 4 years. He has now reenlisted and has 1 more year of this enlistment. The way he is talking, he may make the Navy a career. All I can say is to keep being there for your daughter and let her know you support whatever she decides to do.
