Veleda, great to hear that your sailor is in Japan. My son spent 2 years there and absolutely loved it. If he could get shore duty, he would probably go back. He just did not like life on a Destroyer. He started his career on an aircraft carrier t...

Hey Melissa -

So cool to find another mom from Springfield. I knew their were some out there somewhere!!! Robby is only 2 wks into bc but I am actually feeling really okay w/ it now!!! (altho I have my moments). We actually live in Battlefield. Robby graduated from Kickapoo in 2008.

I look forward to being able to 'pick your brain' as he begins this whole adventure. He is going to A-school in Meridian and will be able to come home on leave a week or so b4 Thanksgiving and I cannot wait!!!!

Thanks for finding me!!!! :)

Hi Melissa, Thanks for the email. If you would like to put me down as another responsible party who could take the younger kids in if you need me to, please feel free to do that. I'll help anyway I can, even if you just need respite for a while or a vacation by yourselves. Please let me know how I can help. I really admire you for what you are doing.

Hi, Melissa: I just checked in after a month of "on the go" and saw your friendship request. I've been a navy mom since Jan 2007. My son is currently stationed in VA. At this moment he's TDY overseas and due back at the end of this month. He will be spending his 21st birthday overseas but I'm sure his wife and son will celebrate with him when he returns. We live in Delaware. I don't check in but about once a month as I found I spent so much time engrossed in correspondence that I wasn't getting anything done around the house. Not to mention, I babysit a couple of days a week when I'm not working so my plate is pretty full. I'll be checking in now and again and reading up on everything that's going on. Good luck and best wishes to your sailor and your family. We will include him in our prayers. k

Hi Melissa,
We live real close to Six Flags. Sea World is also here, too. There's also a zoo. Unlike the St. Louis Zoo, it costs to get in. That's one of the great things about St. Louis - a lot of stuff is free. We're also about three hours away from the coast.
We would look forward to seeing you if you do come our way.
It's hot, hot, hot here in July!

Profile Information

About me:
I have been a Navy Mom for the past 6 years. It was hard at first but now I love it and enjoy getting to visit my son at his different duty stations. Back in August 2007, my husband and I took on the raising of our Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews. We are going to court this Thursday, April 9, 2009 for Total Permanent Guardianship. The kids are really great kids and enjoy living here in Springfield alot. They are all getting A's and B's on their grade cards. I have a 17 year old girl who will be 18 this month, a 15 year old boy who will be 16 this month, an 11 year old girl who will be 12 this July and a 10 year old boy. I raised two boys so raising the girls is a lot different. We are making do. My husband lost his job back in July 2008 but so far we are not in real bad straits. We both love the accomplishments that our Navy son has made and are looking forward to going to all the different places that he goes to for Duty Stations. We try to let one of us go each year so that we both get to spend time with him.

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Do not worry about your child. He is in good hands and will be taken care of. He will have lots of travel experience and lots of chances to see all parts of the world and experience all kinds of situations in life.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.
